Octasic Inc., a leading innovator of media processing and wireless solutions, today announced that its Vocallo MGW multi-core DSP platform has been chosen by NEC Infrontia Corporation, a related company of NEC Corporation responsible for development and manufacturing advanced network, communications and information technology systems. NEC Infrontia has integrated Octasic™s Vocallo MGW platform into its new enterprise system UNIVERGE Aspire X for the Japanese market to deliver flexible and affordable features for businesses as they transition from traditional to all IP networks.
NEC Infrontia™s newly launched UNIVERGE Aspire X allows enterprises to converge their voice and data networks. Using Aspire X, businesses can deploy traditional circuit-switched technology, VoIP, or a combination of both, all in one system. Aspire X can function in and support a hybrid network with traditional digital/analog switching, IP/TDM/IP switching and pure peer-to-peer IP switching, meaning users can continue to utilize their existing equipment while they begin to phase in IP Telephony and lay the foundation for current and future networks.

NEC Infrontia utilizes Octasic™s Vocallo MGW multi-core processor in its UNIVERGE Aspire X solution to manage the media processing of voice over IP. As the industry most versatile DSP platform for voice and video over IP applications, Vocallo MGW allows NEC Infrontia to reduce the overall system and development cost of its Aspire X solution by delivering the lowest power per channel and offering a complete hardware and software solution from one vendor. With support for wideband codecs becoming increasingly important in enterprise settings, the Vocallo MGW software package includes voice processing with support for AMR-WB (G.722.2), G.722, G.722.1c, and G.729.1. This flexible solution of Vocallo MGW can also provide video transcoding and conferencing solutions across all popular codecs including H.263, MPEG-4, and H.264, meaning video conferencing capabilities are supported in a cost-effective manner. All of this is based on Octasics ultra-low power Opus DSP, core architecture.

Having the flexibility to upgrade or expand your network at your own pace is extremely important to customers as they look to maximize their existing technology investments, said Kenji Segawa, associate senior vice president, NEC Infrontia Corporation. We found Octasics Vocallo MGW to be the perfect solution for accommodating the needs of any network, whether it be traditional, IP or somewhere in between. It is an advantage to know we can easily add capabilities, like video conferencing, as our customers require. NEC Infrontia™s reputation for delivering innovative solutions to its customers is unrivaled and we couldnt be happier about our Vocallo MGW being incorporated into its latest PBX solution, said Fabio Gambacorta, vice president sales at Octasic. Equipment manufacturers continually look for ways to reduce the cost of their platforms. With our Vocallo MGW, they get the advantage of having a complete solution, including the hardware and software components, from a single vendor, meaning they can eliminate the extra costs associated with having to integrate multiple solutions.
