NEC Corp. Names PLX Technology a First Tier Preferred Supplier
PLX Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLXT), a leading global supplier of silicon and software interconnect solutions for the enterprise and consumer markets, today announced it’s been named a First Tier Preferred Supplier by NEC Corp. (TSE: 6701).
NEC “NEC demands excellence from its suppliers, and we’ve long valued PLX as an innovation and market leader for our high-performance designs,” said Mr. Tetsuyuki Hishikawa, chief manager, storage products division, NEC. “The company’s wide range of interconnect products, coupled with its superb customer support, has been a terrific asset to NEC and the key reasons for it being named an NEC First Tier Preferred Supplier.”
Among other collaborative projects with NEC, PLX® ExpressLane™ PCIe switches were selected as the interconnect backbone in NEC’s D-Series scalable storage systems at that platform’s inception. NEC designed into the D-Series several PLX devices with multiple lane and port configurations to help enhance the D-Series performance and throughput.
“NEC and PLX have been collaborating on PCI Express designs for more than six years, since Gen 1 solutions first came onto the market,” said Hishikawa. “The continuous, close communication between the two companies has resulted in quick PCI Express Gen 2 base architecture implementations and solving any possible technical issues in advance of the D-Series release. NEC is looking forward to a continued win-win relationship with PLX.”
“NEC Corp. has helped define the worldwide enterprise, networking and consumer-electronics industry, and we’re proud to be a valued partner and to be named its Preferred Supplier,” said Gene Schaeffer, vice president of global sales, PLX. “We look forward to a continued positive working relationship with NEC and providing it with PLX’s industry-leading silicon and software.”
PLX high-performance silicon and supporting software – PCIe switches, 10GBase-T PHYs, USB bridges, consumer-based storage controllers, and comprehensive development tools for those products – enable the interconnect, networking and control functions in a broad array of products from manufacturers worldwide. These designs’ applications range widely, from handheld consumer devices to large enterprise systems essential to cloud computing.
