Near-infrared device makes it easier to find veins
A device that allows medical professionals to see exactly where a patient’s veins are has been introduced by Christie Medical Holdings. The VeinViewer Vision2 works by projecting near-infrared light onto the patient’s skin, which is then absorbed by the blood. The information captured is processed and projected back onto the surface of the skin in real-time.
With VeinViewer technology, professionals can see blood patterns at up to 15mm deep and veins at up to 10mm deep. The device, which illuminates peripheral veins, bifurcations and valves, allows medical professionals to assess the refill/flushing of veins in real time.
Claimed to be the only vein illuminator that provides benefits for all patients during the entire pre-, during- and post-vascular access procedure, the Vision2 allows professionals to change the colour of the projected image, invert or re-size the image, enhance the image, increase or decrease the image brightness or take and store a PNG file of the image.
