Medical Electronics Presentation Discusses The Journey from Bench to Commercial Success
A key presentation at the upcoming Medelec event will discuss the challenge of developing commercially successful products for the health sector. Michael Garrison, Head of Business Development at Health Enterprise East Ltd will argue that it is no longer sufficient to develop novel medical devices, diagnostics and healthcare products with distinctive and improved features. Economic and quality/safety pressures on healthcare mean that it has to improve the productivity, safety and quality of healthcare delivery.
HealMichael Garrison joined HEE in 2010 from the pharmaceutical industry, where his 31-year career spanned the globe.
His experience includes 12 years in pharmaceutical sales and marketing in the USA with Wellcome, followed by 19 years based in the UK but having global management responsibilities for a variety of functional areas. Those areas included new product development & commercialisation of three products having over $1bn annual sales, business & corporate development, intellectual property management (i.e., patents & trademarks) at GlaxoWellcome Plc, Gilead Sciences Inc. and Phytopharm Plc.
Medelec, the new medical electronics conference and exhibition will be held in Cambridge on the 29th November 2011. www.medelec.co.uk
MEDELEC is the only technical event in the UK which focuses specifically on the increasingly important role that electronic components and embedded systems are playing in the design, development and manufacture of medical devices.
The MEDELEC one-day conference and exhibition will be of value to electronics engineers and technical managers working in the clinical and healthcare sectors. This event will be an opportunity for them to learn about the very latest advances in medical electronics through the technical seminar programme and workshops. They will also be able to view demonstrations of innovative software and hardware technologies, and network with peers.
MEDELEC is shaping up very well, said David Williams, Director of UMR. The exhibitors and sponsors for this event include some of the world’s leading hardware providers, embedded software vendors and development tool companies.
We are seeing a lot of enthusiasm for this event, which is being reflected in the schedule of technical presentations and workshops. Engineers can be assured of a productive day.”
The MEDELEC organisers have arranged for the conference programme to be set by an independent judging panel of experts to address the needs of medical device manufacturers, covering topics such as diagnostics, patient monitoring, miniaturisation, and remote monitoring to optimise patient care. This includes technologies used in operating theatres, hospitals, clinics, doctor's surgeries, and home devices.
