The Institute for System Level Integration (iSLI), one of the UK’s leading micro-electronics institutes, has announced a new agreement with Mentor Graphics Corporation to provide Continuing Professional Development courses in exchange for Mentor Passbook tokens.
Although CPD courses have been running at iSLI for several years, this is the first time that they will be offered in conjunction with the Mentor Passbook Scheme. Passbooks are part of an annual training plan available to engineers through Mentor. The training needs of the individual are assessed by Mentor, who then estimate the volume of tokens necessary to achieve a desired goal. Tokens are pre-purchased and for iSLI courses, are equivalent to 1 student per class per day. Tony Harker, CEO at iSLI comments, “This collaboration (the latest in a series of agreements between the two companies) will help provide focused training solutions to the micro-electronics design community, enabling Mentor’s customers to take part in the scheme which is ultimately aimed at developing and maintaining skills necessary for future success”.

iSLI is offering E-Learning MSc Modules, E-Learning Analogue CMOS CPD Modules and Continuing Professional Development Courses through the scheme. Courses will be held at iSLI’s Alba Campus in Livingston, Scotland and the Bath Innovation Centre in the South West. The course materials for the E-Learning Modules will be delivered via the internet, allowing students to accommodate the work required to develop skills around their existing employment and personal commitments. Adrian Buckley, Area Director for Northern Europe at Mentor comments, “Mentor Graphics and iSLI have a long history of successful collaboration. The addition of iSLI CPD courses to the Passbook scheme is a logical extension of our close working relationship and will allow Mentor’s customers easy access to a broad range of development material”
