Imagination acknowledges assistance of Yorkshire Forward for Research Initiative
Imagination Technologies, a leading multimedia and communications technologies company, has successfully completed the first phase of research into advanced System on Chip (SoC) software and systems design made possible by a funding grant from Yorkshire Forward, the Regional Development Agency for Yorkshire and Humber, and the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund. The grant was provided to increase research and development, supporting the development of a single integrated applications processor and increasing the company’s offer in the mobile products market.
SimoOne key result of this first phase of research was the completion of a study into how best to map the Android™ operating system from Google onto the META processor’s unique architecture. Imagination expects that the research project supported by Yorkshire Forward will result in further innovations as the work progresses, not only in terms of Operating Systems and application platforms, but also methodologies to achieve high performance SoC solutions based on Imagination’s innovative META multi-threaded processor.
Jim Whittaker, VP Processor IP, Imagination says: “We are delighted with the support for research offered by Yorkshire Forward which complements the significant investment Imagination has making for many years in our processor technology. Our research team in Leeds is developing new technologies that are being positively received by product development teams across all parts of Imagination’s engineering community. As a result of Yorkshire Forward’s support, we look forward to continue growing the capability and scope of activities of our Leeds-based research team.”
