Huawei Takes Lead in HD Services Powered by IP & OTN Synergy
Huawei successfully demonstrated the benefits of IP & OTN synergy for high-definition (HD) services in Shenzhen at the end of last month. Huawei' s SingleBackbone solution enabled the concept of IP & OTN synergy to become a reality.
As tInterworking between the optical transmission layer and the IP layer is emerging as an important feature for service providers looking to optimize network architectures and reduce cost, said Ron Kline, Principal Analyst Network Infrastructure, OVUM. Huawei' s demonstration showed early evidence of progress in reaching this goal.
In Shenzhen, analysts from around the world witnessed demonstrations of Huawei's end-to-end SingleBackbone solution, covering network planning, traffic switching, and OAM. The solution enables cross-layer network planning through a set of tools and management systems, backed up by resources for highly-efficient, easy OAM at lower costs. Huawei's SingleBackbone responds to traffic changes and allows for the switching of HD traffic services across layers, thus balancing traffic between the router and the OTN network and effectively mitigating pressures that irritate router capacity and alleviating the impact of burst traffic on signal quality.
Christian Chua, president of Converged Backbone Solution Department, Network Product Line, Huawei, said, As part of Huawei ALL-IP convergence strategy, our single Backbone solution enables operators to increase network efficiency, mitigate pressures on the backbone network and optimize network reliability, while slashing OM costs.
Huawei has participated in the development of approximately 100 backbone networks, with more than 30,000 OTN products shipped, and more than 1,000 cumulative sets of NE5000E core routers and associated cluster systems worldwide. According to OVUM, Huawei ranked first in the 2009 global WDM market and third in the 2009 global core router market, and was the only vendor to be listed among the top three market leader boards of both WDM and core routers.
