HCD, the Letchworth-based contract electronics manufacturer, is reaping the benefits of running an accredited apprenticeship scheme, as its first staff member to complete the full program has now just graduated and is beginning a career in the company’s board design office.
This summer, Alex Pitt - who was selected by HCD four years ago for his enthusiasm and commitment - gained an HND in Electronics from Burfield College in Luton. Comments founder and Commercial Director, Carol Holmes: “Alex has worked in every manufacturing function at HCD, including hand build. We have been able to train him according to our methods and practices, so – in common with our entire workforce – he has a wide skill-set and a flexible approach. We congratulate him on his achievements and are very pleased he has decided to continue his training in the PCB design and layout department.”

HCD is committed to an ongoing apprenticeship program, having seen the obvious rewards. Holmes: “In the time Alex has been with us we have increased our headcount six fold. We need well-trained, positive, skilful people who are prepared to commit to HCD and grow with us, learning all the time. The apprenticeship scheme is one important method of ensuring that we, our staff and most importantly, our customers all benefit.”
