Green Hills Software has announced that Ultra Electronics has chosen the Green Hills Platform for Software Defined Radio for the upgrade of the US Army’s Area Common User System (ACUS), Joint Network Node (JNN) High-Capacity Line-of-Sight Radio, also known as the AN/GRC-254(V) HCLOS radio.
This radio provides bandwidth-efficient links for critical voice and data transmission required for 21st Century battlefield digitization. The upgrade increases the capacity of the ACUS network by providing up to 16 Mbps traffic throughput, upgradeable to 34 Mb/s, using the minimum occupied spectrum

Ultra selected the Communications Research Centre of Canada’s (CRC) SCARI core framework as the Software Communication Architecture (SCA) Operating Environment (OE) for use with Green Hills Platform for SDR.

“As the established technology leader for installed tactical LOS radios, Ultra understands the importance of working with a company committed to delivering integrated SDR solutions based on secure, reliable RTOS technology,” commented Dan O’Dowd, founder and chief executive officer of Green Hills Software. “We are pleased that Ultra Electronics chose the Green Hills Platform for SDR as part of this critical radio upgrade program.”

Ultra Electronics is recognized for developing innovative products and systems that meet the sophisticated communication needs of modern militaries and holds a majority share for installed Line-Of-Sight (LOS) radios - more than double the share of its nearest competitor.
