Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe Names Joji Murakami President
Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe (FME) announces that Dr. Joji Murakami, a Fujitsu career executive with many years’ experience in the semiconductor industry on both the domestic and international fronts, has been named as the company’s new President. He is based at FME's European headquarters in Langen, near Frankfurt.
Murakami succeeds Shimpei Hirata who has returned to Japan to take up his new position with Fujitsu's Electronic Devices Division.
Commenting on his time at FME, Hirata said: “My five years here have been both enjoyable and rewarding. Together we have experienced ups and downs in business, and today I believe that FME is in a strong position to weather the storm of the current recession.
“On a personal note, I have enjoyed the opportunity to explore and learn about European culture, and I want to say a big thank-you to everyone for all the support, advice and help that you have extended to me during my stay.”
Joji Murakami was previously Corporate Vice President at Fujitsu Microelectronics Limited (FML) in Japan and before that Executive Vice President of Fujitsu’s Electronic Devices Business Unit. Furthermore, he has held numerous senior positions with the company including Next Age Product Planning since joining the Fujitsu Group in 1977.
Dr. Murakami received a PhD in Applied Physics from the University of Tokyo, in 1977.
“Dr. Joji Murakami has worked closely with us in Europe for many years and has forged excellent relationships both internally and with our European customers, said Hirata. His knowledge of the international semiconductor market is exceptional, and I am in no doubt that the company will prosper under his Presidency.
I am very pleased to take up this new challenge with FME in Europe on both professional and personal levels,” said Murakami. “I am attracted by Europe’s industrial and cultural traditions and see its strengths in the fields of Automotive, Industrial, Mobile Communications, and Telecommunications. The team at FME is highly dedicated, and in joining them I look forward to contributing to business development. I am well aware that difficult times may lie ahead, but remain convinced that today we are ideally positioned to offer value-added service, design and solutions to key European markets.
