Exports key to continued Northern Powerhouse growth

Quantum Science, the infrared QD technology expert, recently won the New to Export category at the Northern Powerhouse Export Awards for its experience selling its INFIQ QDs on the international stage.

Commenting on findings from ecommerce analysts at Alibaba Group UK, the Warrington-based business is now encouraging other local companies to consider the options available to them to kick-start their own exporting journeys.

The research found 74% of businesses in the North are exporting with 66% predicting increased export sales in the next year. Of these, 79% claimed exporting had made their business stronger.

Another 80% claimed exporting had fuelled their innovation and 78% said it had eased the pressure of trading within the UK.

However, many respondents to the survey said they had experienced significant barriers to exporting, with the most common hurdles including supply chain and logistical issues, increased red tape, and economic uncertainty.
