Energy Micro wins France's Electron d'Or

Energy Micro, the energy friendly microcontroller company, has won the Processors and Memories category of the French electronics industry's annual Electron d'Or awards. The Electron d'Or trophy was presented to Energy Micro's VP Sales EMEA Ian Fletcher at a ceremony held at the Paris headquarters of FIEEC, France's Federation of Electrical, Electronic and Communication Industries.

Now in its 12th year, the Electron d'Or awards recognises all those products the editorial team of France's leading trade publication, Electroniques magazine, believes have made the biggest impact during the past year. The winners, in each of 11 different categories, are then selected by an independent jury of French electronics industry experts.

The jury concluded that in 2010's Processors and Memories category, Energy Micro's ultra low power EFM32 Gecko microcontroller family, most merited the prestigious Electron d'Or. EFM32 has been proven to consume a quarter of the energy required by existing 8, 16 and 32-bit microcontroller solutions. Runners-up in the category were Analog Devices, Marvel, NXP, Ramtron and XMOS.

Founded in Oslo, Norway in 2007, Energy Micro's mission is to provide the world's most energy friendly microcontrollers. The company's first product, the ultra low power EFM32 Gecko microcontroller family, based on the ARM® Cortex(TM) M3 microcontroller architecture, was launched in October 2009 and is now in full production. Its Tiny Gecko product line followed in March 2010. EFM32 has been proven to consume a quarter of the energy required by other 8, 16 and 32-bit microcontroller solutions. The Electron d'Or Award follows hot on the heels of two industry awards Energy Micro has received in Germany; the Embedded Award for Hardware at the Embedded World 2010 Exhibition & Conference in Nuremberg and the Elektronik Magazine readers' Product of the Year Award.
