This year’s Embedded Masterclass Conference & Exhibition will take place in Cambridge on the 24th May and Stratford-upon-Avon the 7th June, and is expected to further build on its reputation as a productive, enjoyable and informative event for development engineers engaged in hi-tech development.
/> The 2010 Embedded Masterclass saw engineers travel from across Europe to attend the event held in Cambridge and Reading. In addition to this, many of the world's leading development tool and hardware vendors exhibited and presented their latest technologies. These vendors included Wind River, SDC Systems, Green Hills Software, Lauterbach, Phaedrus Systems, IAR, and QNX Software. The technical workshops included such topics as Embedded Linux development, Graphical Interface Development and Software Timing Analysis.

This will be the 11th Embedded Masterclass and all the indications are that it will once again be a well supported and attended event, said David Williams, Director of UMR, the company organizing the event. The formula will be very much the same, with the focus on technology workshops, technical presentations on topics that engineers need to understand, plus a tabletop exhibition of vendors who lead the world in embedded system development tools.

One area of success for the event has been the take up of the half-day technical workshops where an expert in a given subject will share his knowledge and understanding of his specialist topic. Some of these workshops provide laptops and hardware for hands-on instruction. More than 90 engineers registered for these workshops at the 2010 event and the feedback from them has been very positive throughout.

An interesting aspect of the Embedded Masterclass is that the same event is run in two locations and that these locations change each year. The intention has been to minimise the distance that engineers have to travel and to make the event as accessible as possible.

Being a development engineer can be a high pressure job and we understand how precious their time is and how important it is to use this time productively, commented Williams. In this respect, we try to choose locations that are easy to travel to. We also make sure that the event is well organised and carefully thought through, so that on the day, delegates walk away feeling that the event has been a worthwhile investment of their time.
