CommScope Expands its Technology Offering
CommScope has evolved its optical access network products by offering a new PON solution to the industry that is flexible to accommodate both EPON and GPON technologies.
The The industry has recognized this technology standard as important to delivering IP and Ethernet services and business communications. A completely scalable end-to-end PON system, such as CommScope’s new PON solution, provides operators with the bandwidth and additional service options their subscribers have come to expect.
“Technology is continuing to progress at a rapid pace and operators must keep up with their customers’ increasing demand for bandwidth,” said Ric Johnsen, senior vice president, Broadband, CommScope. “Our new PON solution provides an alternative technology for operators to deploy competitive Ethernet services to small- and medium-sized business and improved bandwidth to rural areas. This launch demonstrates how CommScope continues to expand it ability to deliver more end-to-end, scalable access networks to the industry.”
The complete PON portfolio includes optical line terminals, optical network units, system-management software and installation components.
The OLTs provide high throughput and capacity in an easy-to-deploy and maintainable chassis. With both 1G and 10G capabilities, the system provides operators an easy migration path for future capacity.
ONUs includes single- and multi-user and small form factor pluggable units. They feature an assortment of Ethernet, Power over Ethernet, and voice ports, along with WiFi capabilities for the connectivity a subscriber requires. The entire solution integrates seamlessly into an operator’s management architecture with software that performs system backups and upgrades, as well as real-time fault monitoring.
Small and large OLTs and multiple ONUs provide operators with the instruments needed to optimize their network architecture while minimizing first-install costs and reducing operating costs and capital expenditures.
CommScope’s new PON family of active and passive optical devices provide rural communities, electric
cooperatives, multiple system operators, municipalities and governments the ability to deliver advanced voice, video, and data services to their subscribers using fiber optic cables. The solution has been designed to be deployed in various situations including residential FTTx, access networks for commercial accounts, multi-dwelling units, commercial in-building, security and building automation and wireless access points. Combined with CommScope’s optical tap technology, FTTx deployments are affordable even in low-density applications.
“Our complete PON solution portfolio allows operators to provide their consumers with advanced services today while also preparing for future demands by deploying either an EPON or GPON solution.”
This new PON solution will be introduced during the upcoming SCTE Cable-Tec Expo hosted by the Society of Telecommunications Engineers. The SCTE Cable-Tec Expo will take place October 17-19, 2012 in Orlando, FL at the Orange County Convention Center. CommScope will exhibit at Booth 2822 and will have interactive demonstrations showcasing many of the technology, intelligence and energy conservation and management solutions the company has to offer the cable television/broadband industries.
