Chunghwa Telecom Selects Ikanos-based Network Equipment from D-Link for Ultra-Fast Multimedia Service Deployment
Ikanos Communications, a leading provider of advanced broadband semiconductor and software products for the digital home, and D-Link Corporation (TAIEX 2332), a global leader in advanced communications solutions, today announced that that Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan's largest telecommunications operator, has selected Ikanos-based VDSL2 central office (CO) products and customer premises equipment (CPE) from D-Link for its high-speed multimedia service deployments. The Ikanos- based modems and Internet protocol digital subscriber line access multiplexers (IP DSLAMs) are being utilized by Chunghwa Telecom in its next-generation multimedia network deployment, planned for roll out in the second half of 2010.
By uD-Link selected the Fusiv® Vx180 communications processor for integration into its most advanced VDSL2 modem, the DSL-6541K. Ikanos' Fusiv Vx180 is a low-power, single-chip communications processor that incorporates a MIPS-based™ CPU core capable of 500 MHz processing speeds, digital signal processor (DSP)-based VoIP capabilities and security. The Fusiv Vx180 offers advanced processing power, wire speed performance and best-in-class quality of service (QoS). These integrated features enable service providers to deploy new offerings, including IPTV, more cost effectively. Additionally, Vx180's advanced xDSL interface supports multi-mode A/VDSL capability, which reduces the cost and complexity of supporting hybrid ADSL and VDSL networks for service providers worldwide.
D-Link's DEV-3726K 24-port IP DSLAMs being deployed by Chunghwa Telecom include Ikanos' low power broadband DSL CO chipsets. These chipsets incorporate Ikanos Quality Video (iQV™) technology, which provides exceptional delivery of data-intensive triple play applications. Ikanos' iQV – a combination of ITU G.inp compliant retransmission and Rapid Rate Adaptation™ (advanced ITU-T compliant SOS, SRA and Bitswap) technologies – enables the chipset to intelligently adjust its data rate instantly to provide optimal quality in any line condition. With iQV, IPTV services that may be severely degraded or dropped by less sophisticated chipsets will stay connected. Even in very noisy conditions, iQV maintains image quality with no degredation. Additionally, the chipsets support 100 Mbps symmetrical performance and enhanced impulse noise protection (INP) schemes. The Fx™100100-5L chipsets are designed to provide the highest throughput and density with the lowest per port power consumption, which results in high- density systems that reduce carriers' capital and operating expenditures.
“Ikanos' advanced communications processor and broadband DSL CO chipsets were the ideal choice for our next-generation of VDSL2 network equipment,” said Anny Wei, president of D-Link Taiwan. “The highly integrated Vx180 communications processor provides all the processing power Chunghwa Telecom needs to deploy a variety of high bandwidth applications. And the innovative line-stabilizing technology of the CO chipsets enables our current generation platforms to provide high quality fiber-like delivery of premium services over VDSL2 networks, regardless of adverse line conditions. Both devices are enabling D-Link's equipment to support all VDSL profiles including 30 MHz.”
“Chunghwa Telecom is known for its advanced network capabilities and for offering innovative broadband services,” said Mitch Kahn, vice president of Corporate Development at Ikanos. “We are very pleased that D-Link's Ikanos-based modems and IP DSLAMs are part of Chunghwa Telecom's migration to its next-generation of multimedia capable broadband networks. We are delighted to receive a third consecutive Chunghwa Telecom award, and that we continue to play a vital role in the deployment of advanced revenue-generating multimedia services across Taiwan.”
