Birmingham-based cable assemblies, integrated products and logistics provider, CHH CoNeX has introduced a new team tasked with further integrating overall product design and development processes within the company's business strategy.
The New Product Introduction (NPI) team, which will be led by Simon Mills, will also look to ensure that customers products are seamlessly transitioned into the business in an efficient, cost effective way, ensuring that the cross functional teams collaborate with the goal of meeting customers delivery and quality demands.

The renewed focus on NPI comes after reviewing and further developing of a number of best practice processes such as AS9100 and lean within CHH CoNeX aligned to improve manufacturability, reduce risk whilst meeting and exceeding customer requirements.

“NPI is one of the three core processes within the business and which demands close resource management and competent project planning for all new products to be introduced into CHH CoNeX. Every NPI project begins with development of a detailed project plan outlining assigned responsibilities, project milestones and due dates,” said Mr Mills. “The NPI team will look to align a number of cross-functional business processes, with the view of improved communications and removal of wasteful activities.”

Mr Mills, who has spent a number of years working on various new product introduction developments within the power and connectivity industry, will also look to external partners for ways to better collaborate to ensure that product changes, materials sourcing, procurement, supply chain integration and management are handled effectively.

He added: “The Return on Investment of an effective NPI strategy includes increased revenue though reduction in time to market for new products, reduced costs through improving inefficient processes and the removal of penalty payments will ensure that both existing and new customers can remain globally competitive.

“CHH CoNeX is already certified as a supplier that operates to the world-class standards of the aerospace industry and relies on a robust quality management system; our team will look to deploy this already sound infrastructure for the benefits of customers everywhere.”

Dean Taylor, Director said: “NPI forms part of CHH CoNeX’s overall growth strategy and will result in the alignment a number of core, best practice processes across the business, which are designed for continuous improvement, waste elimination and value creation.

“Simon has a reputation for ensuring companies provide quality-assured products, services and solutions at the optimum total cost of acquisition for applications across a wide range of industries including aerospace and defence and I look forward to working with him and his team as we continue to demonstrate our commitment to the Industry SC21 programme of business excellence.”
