Carbon Design Systems announced today that it closed calendar year 2010 with year-over-year growth of 35% and generated significant positive cash flow as it continues to build momentum in the virtual platform market. It experienced growth in all geographies worldwide and added substantial contributions from its new Carbon IP Exchange online offering.
“A key area fueling our growth is our unique ability to shorten the time required to create a virtual platform,” remarks Rick Lucier, Carbon’s president and chief executive officer. “Carbon IP Exchange is a key part of this as it allows users to quickly and correctly build models for their virtual platforms. In just six months, it has well over 100 users who have created in excess of 1,000 models. We are excited about the prospects for 2011 as we roll out new products and add members to the Carbon IP Exchange community.”
While adding to its customer base in 2010, Carbon has installations at 16 of the top 20 semiconductor and system companies. It continues to expand its solutions to include both the architect and software development teams with its unified virtual platform offering.
During the course of 2010, Carbon introduced Carbon IP Exchange, a web portal that includes models from key system-on-chip (SoC) intellectual property (IP) vendors, including ARM, Cadence, Elliptic, MIPS, Tensilica, VeriSilicon and Vivante. Carbon also added solutions for software developers with the industry’s best integration of ARM Fast Models to complement its substantial portfolio of ARM cycle-accurate models.

The combination of Carbon Model Studio, SoC Designer Plus and Carbon IP Exchange, completed in 2010, provides a complete solution that addresses the needs of the architect through to the software developer within one unified platform. Moving into 2011, Carbon’s focus will remain on reducing the time, effort and cost required to produce and maintain virtual platforms at all levels of abstraction.
