The Freescale Semiconductor Kinetis EA Series Microcontrollers is now available at Mouser Electronics. The microcontroller is based on a 48MHz ARM Cortex‑M0+ core with a single‑cycle 32x32‑bit multiplier, and is automotive AEC‑Q100 grade 1 qualified. Up to 128KBytes of Flash, 16KBytes of SRAM, and 256Bytes of EEPROM are available.

All devices within the Kinetis EA series offer pin-to-pin scalability across the entire Kinetis EA series for increased hardware and software reuse. Kinetis EA series MCUs are designed with ESD/EMC in mind for strong noise immunity and low radiated emissions.

The 32-bit microcontrollers are designed for harsh environments. These microcontrollers can operate over an extended temperature range from ‑40°C to +125°C. The Kinetis EA series is capable of driving high current motors and components with a voltage range from 2.7V to 5.5V, and provides advanced automotive communication through a rich peripheral set including CAN 2.0b with five receive buffers, LIN, SPI, and I2C connectivity.

Other features of the EA series include a 12‑bit ADC with a 2.5µsec conversion time, a 6‑bit DAC, two analog comparators, over ten timers, and an internal clock. A human-machine interface (HMI) supports up to two 32‑bit keyboard interface (KBI) modules. Packaging includes a 16-pin TSSOP, a 24-pin QFN, a 32- and 64-pin LQFP, and an 80-pin QFP.

Development tool support for the Freescale’s Kinetis EA series MCUs includes IAR Systems’ Embedded Workbench, KEIL Tools, the StarterTRAK TRK‑KEA8 Starter Kit for low end automotive applications, the StarterTRAK TRK‑KEA64 with 256Bytes of EEPROM, and the StarterTRAK TRK‑KEA128 for CAN applications.

The microcontrollers are suited to fit the unusual low power and performance needs of the industrial and automotive market. Target automotive applications include seat, mirror, wiper, sunroof and fuel/water pump systems; general body electronics such as body control, park assist, and CAN/LIN nodes; and engine controls for two-wheel powertrain systems. Industrial applications include ambient lighting, DC/BLDC industrial motor control, TPMS, battery management, BCM/HVAC, and generic sensor nodes.
