Micros
Microprocessor delivers 2.8 GFLOPS to industrial applications requiring graphics
Renesas Technology Europe has announced the immediate availability of the SH7780 microprocessor that delivers Pentium-class floating point performance into consumer and industrial markets. The device is ideal for applications requiring high-end graphics and so features a floating point unit (FPU) tailored for that purpose. Furthermore it consumes only 2.5W, is available in a -40 to 85 degree C version, integrates PCI, has a long life time, and is low cost compared to a Pentium microprocessor of similar FPU performance.
The The SH7780 has 3 independent external busses, a 32bit DDR320-SDRAM controller, standard NOR Flash, NAND Flash controller, PCMCIA and ATAPI controller. It has a MultiMedia card interface and a 32bit PCI 2.2 controller at 33/66MHz, 2-channel serial interface with on-chip FIFO, and an audio codec interface.
The powerful FPU calculates 3D graphics using internal DSP-like instructions (MAC, DIV, SQRT), supports single and double precision (64bit) and has a 10-stage pipeline for optimised performance.
The SH7780 is supported by all relevant high-end operating systems such as WinCE, Linux and QNX via the Renesas Platinum Alliance Partners emtrion and MPC-Data. The SH7780 device is available immediately (R8A77800BDBGV) as is the SDK7780-R4 development kit.
