Fujitsu Expands Line of New 8FX 8-bit Microcontrollers for DC Motor Control
Fujitsu Semiconductor Europe today announced the expansion of its “New 8FX” family of high-performance 8-bit microcontrollers to include nine new products from the 48-pin MB95690 series, featuring brushless DC motor control functionality, and six products from the 64-pin MB95810 series, featuring analogue comparator technology.
As lBrushless DC motors are superior in terms of their noiselessness and their long life expectancy. Since such motors account for a significant percentage of a product’s overall cost, there is significant demand for lower cost microcontrollers to control brushless DC motors. In addition, there is also considerable demand for microcontrollers that can support relatively high-end products requiring fine-grained system control, such as temperature sensors, light sensors and other applications that monitor a range of environmental parameters for a device. Moreover, the increasing focus in recent years on reducing the power consumption of electronics products has generated growing pressure to reduce power consumption to the minimum for standby and normal operation modes.
The MB95690 series meets all of these demands. Presented in a 48-pin package with 60 KB of built-in flash memory, it is a power-efficient microcontroller that not only includes brushless DC motor control functionality, but various timers and communications functions that are useful both for general-purpose applications and peripheral circuits. MB95810 series products offer up to 60 KB of flash memory capacity in a 64-pin package, and are also equipped with peripheral circuits, such as up to 12 channels of high-precision A/D converters and an analogue comparator with reference voltage. Both series also enable the use of fewer system components and can also run large-scale processing programs. One typical application is as a power-efficient system management microcontroller for system and power management.
Product Overview:
Built-in DC brushless motor controller (MB95690 Series)
A multi-pulse generator for DC motor control enables the generation of a three-phase PWM waveform for controlling a brushless DC motor. It can be used for a range of brushless DC motors.
Embedding external components reduces the component count
Since these microcontrollers feature an embedded internal CR oscillating circuit (running the operating clock), low-voltage detection circuit (for detecting voltage drops) and analogue comparator with reference voltage, this eliminates the need for an external oscillator, reset IC and operational amplifier and contributes to a reduction in external components. The CR oscillator has a precision level of ±2 per cent.
High-performance flash memory with industry-leading re-write/read ability
The microcontrollers feature embedded industry-leading high-performance flash memory capable of 100,000 rewrite/read cycles. A flash security feature also protects the customer's software from unauthorized external program access.
Availability
Sample quantities of these new products will begin shipping from June 2012.
