Saelig unveils miniature low-EMI 1.8V/3.3V oscillators
Saelig has introduced an oscillator to the Euroquartz range of Spread Spectrum low-EMI oscillators that uses spread spectrum (dithered) techniques to reduce electromagnetic interference by up to 12dB.
The new EQHM22C series oscillators can operate from a supply voltage of 1.8-3.3V and are available in a miniature 2.5 x 2.0 x 0.9mm standard surface mount package. The oscillators are drop-in replacements for standard clocks. These low-cost oscillators offer the significant advantage of reducing EMI at source, i.e., the system clock oscillator, reducing the need to employ costly shielded backplanes, ferrite cores, or similar techniques for reducing EMI.
In electrical systems, a principal cause of electro-magnetic interference (EMI) is the system clock oscillator. The most efficient and economic method to reduce EMI is to reduce it at source: replace the system clock oscillator with a low EMI clock oscillator. Spread Spectrum Technology spreads the mode energy over a wider bandwidth, reducing the overall peak EMI burden. The modulation frequency, operating in the kHz region, makes the process transparent to the clock oscillator frequency. Modulation rates and spread choices can be chosen to suit application requirements.
Common specifications for the new EQHM22C oscillators are frequency range from 16 to 40.0MHz, CMOS output logic, DC input voltage of 1.8V ±0.15V, frequency stability options of ±25ppm, ±50ppm, and ±100ppm for commercial (0 to +70°C) and industrial (-40 to +85°C) devices, rise/fall times of 10ns maximum, 15pF load and start-up time 1ms typical. Duty cycle is 50% ±10%, standard, and ageing is ±5ppm/year maximum at 25°C. Supplied on EIA 16mm tape and reel in quantities of 1000, the new EQHM22C series low EMI, low voltage oscillators are RoHS compliant and lead-free. The devices are reflow solder compatible and can withstand two processes at 260°C for 10 seconds maximum.
EQHM22C series oscillators are RoHS compliant and vibration/shock performance complying with MIL-STD-202F. These oscillators are ideal for a wide range of equipment, including printers and multi-function devices, digital copiers, networking, LAN/WAN, routers, computer storage systems (CD-ROM, VCD, DVD, HDD), scanners, modems, projectors, embedded systems, musical instruments, automotive electronics, GPS car navigation systems, PC monitors and TVs, ADSL, PCMCIA equipment, digital cameras, and medical devices.
Made by European frequency product specialists Euroquartz, the EQHM22C series oscillators are available now from Saelig Company.
