Silicon Labs recently unveiled a new collaboration with Arduino aimed at enhancing the development of Matter over Thread applications for Arduino's developer community, which numbers 33 million.

In partnership with Silicon Labs, Arduino has launched its first Matter software libraries, now accessible on Silicon Labs' xG24 Explorer Kit and the xG24-based SparkFun Thing Plus Matter – MGM240P development board.

“Arduino’s simplicity, ease of use, and powerful development environment is what makes them so appealing to their community of over 33 million users, whether they be Makers just getting started, or Pros with a wealth of development experience,” said Rob Shane, Vice President of Mass Market Sales, and Applications at Silicon Labs. “By combining Arduino’s software libraries with Silicon Labs-based hardware, developers get the best of both worlds with our leading security, energy efficiency, and processing power for Matter.”

Further resources, including code samples, reference designs, and documentation, are now available on the Arduino Core for Silicon Labs Devices GitHub page.

The partnership significantly lowers the barriers to developing Matter devices, making it simpler and more accessible. Arduino's ecosystem, known for its intuitive interface and ease of use, has evolved through contributions from its engaged community, addressing the evolving needs of the embedded computing market.

“Empowering innovators has always been at the core of Arduino’s mission, and our collaboration with Silicon Labs takes that commitment to new heights. This partnership represents a significant stride in democratising the development of Matter applications, for our community and beyond. By integrating Arduino’s simplicity and powerful development environment with Silicon Labs’ cutting-edge hardware capabilities, we are providing users with a unique blend of accessibility and advanced features. Together with Silicon Labs, we are excited to pave the way for the next wave of innovation in the IoT landscape,” commented Fabio Violante, CEO of Arduino.

This collaboration is set to expedite Matter development, with Silicon Labs engineers demonstrating the ability to prepare a new board as a Matter device within two minutes.

The second phase of this partnership will see the co-development of a new Arduino Nano development board, designed for small form factor devices and incorporating Silicon Labs' MGM240 Module, based on the MG24 SoC. This module offers wireless connectivity via Matter, Thread, and Bluetooth protocols, equipped with an ARM Cortex-M33, ten dBm output power, low current consumption, and the highest PSA Certification Level 3 security, enabling developers to create efficient and secure applications.

This partnership marks a significant step in Silicon Labs' mission to simplify IoT development, complementing its evolving development tools, including the upcoming release of Simplicity Studio 6, which will offer enhanced integration capabilities for developers.
