Texas Instruments OMAP™ 2 Platform Powers Latest NEC 3G FOMA® Phone

Texas Instruments Incorporated today announced that its OMAP™ 2 platform has been selected to provide compelling multimedia functionality for one of NTT DoCoMo’s newest FOMA® 3G handsets, the FOMA N903i from NEC. Based on TI’s OMAP2430 processor, this handset delivers a wide range of entertainment and productivity functions, packaging some of the most desirable multimedia applications into a single handset supporting DVD-quality video and best-in-class VGA color display.

Leveraging the high-performance, power-efficient capabilities of TI’s OMAP2430 processor, consumers using the N903i will experience efficient multitasking communications such as full internet browsing, document viewing, and full music track downloading while supporting VGA resolution display. The OMAP2430 processor also enables smooth and easy functioning mobile TV and VGA resolution for viewing movies and video clips. Based on TI’s high-performance, low leakage 90-nanometer CMOS
technology, the OMAP2430 integrates an ARM1136 RISC processor core and dedicated 2D/3D graphics hardware acceleration.

Today’s announcement marks the fifth generation NEC family of handsets supported by TI’s OMAP platform, and underscores TI’s company’s commitment to provide high-quality, flexible wireless solutions for wireless markets worldwide. Drawing upon more than 15 years of wireless
systems expertise, TI has shipped more than 100 million OMAP processors to date in more than 180 different mobile phone and PDA models.
