ALPS Offers Low-Profile 3-in-1 Combine Type Connector for Memory Cards

With the SCDB3A02, ALPS ELECTRIC EUROPE GmbH offers a 3-in-1 combine type connector which allows the use of SD Memory Card, Multimedia-Card, and Memory Stick in one single slot. The surface-mountable connector is available as standard mount type. It is remarkable for its compact dimensions of only 29.5mm x 30.4 mm x 4.2 mm (W x D x H) and an ejection stroke of 6.5mm for the storage media. For enhanced user-friendliness, the combine type connector is realized as push-push type, which allows an easy handling through manual insertion and removal of the memory cards. Thereby the SCDB3A02 guarantees an operating life of 10,000 insertion/removal cycles for SD Memory Cards and 12,000 cycles for memory sticks.

The connector has a detection switch in sliding contact structure that can detect if a card has been inserted or not and that ensures a high reliability. Further technical specifications are a maximum initial contact resistance of 100mΩ at the connector contacts and 500mΩ at the detection switch, an insulation resistance of up to 1,000MΩ and a voltage proof of 500VAC per minute. Its operating temperature ranges from –25°C to +60°C. The 3-in-1 combine type connector complies with the RoHS (Restriction on Hazardous Substances) directive and is available in minimum packaging units of 300 pieces.

The high degree of miniaturization of the 3-in-1 combine type connector was achieved through the use of ALPS’ proprietary thin body-forming and precision molding technologies. Because of its low-profile design, this new card connector will increase the degree of design freedom for set makers, contributing to their efforts to produce thinner, more compact devices.
