Staccato Communications to Deliver Certified Wireless USB based Reference Designs with Cypress
Staccato Communications today announced a collaboration effort to jointly develop reference designs for the Certified Wireless USB market with Cypress Semiconductor Corp. The companies are working to provide solutions based on Cypress's industry-leading wired USB products and Staccato's single-chip, all-CMOS Ripcord™ Device Wire Adapter solution based on Certified Wireless USB, which operates in the Ultra Wideband (UWB) spectrum and offers high-speed wireless data transfers up to 480Mbps. The companies are developing reference designs that will offer full turn-key, pre-certified design kits including hardware, software, design files, and documentation. These kits will enable product developers to introduce Certified Wireless USB products to market quickly, cost effectively and with minimal design risk.
Two reference designs, based on Certified Wireless USB are now being developed by Staccato and Cypress:
A 4-port Wireless USB Hub - Utilizing Cypress's TetraHub™ USB 2.0
hub controller and Staccato's single-chip, all-CMOS Ripcord SC3502P Wireless USB Device Wire Adapter solution
A Wireless USB Mass Storage Bridge - Utilizing Cypress's EZ-USB
FX2LP™ family of mass storage solutions and Staccato's single-chip, all-CMOS Ripcord SC3502P Wireless USB Device Wire Adapter solution
Staccato's single-chip, all-CMOS Ripcord SC3502P Wireless USB Device Wire Adapter allows any existing wired USB peripheral to instantly connect as a Certified Wireless USB device without any modifications to hardware or software. Staccato also offers a reference design kit for a Wireless USB Host Wire Adapter, which enables any host PC system to operate as a Certified Wireless USB Host. All required hardware, software, design files, and documentation are included for a complete end-to-end solution for a truly wireless system.
We are excited to be working with Cypress on these next-generation reference designs for the emerging Certified Wireless USB market, said Mark Bowles, co-founder and vice president of Business Development and Corporate Marketing for Staccato Communications. Cypress recently announced surpassing a half billion wired USB products sold. By pairing our innovative single-chip, all-CMOS Ripcord Wireless USB solutions with Cypress's industry-leading USB products, we will allow our customers to speed up time-to-market, in addition to lowering costs and design risk, when delivering cutting-edge Certified Wireless USB products.
As the market leader in USB, we are eager to work with emerging companies with exciting technology such as Staccato Communications, said Rajiv Nema, marketing manager for Cypress's High-Speed Peripherals Business Unit. The Certified Wireless USB market has strong appeal for short-range, very high-speed wireless data transfer, and we're pleased that our TetraHub controller and FX2LP programmable ATA/ATAPI bridge controller are the solutions of choice for this technology.
