London-based wireless specialist Radiometrix has introduced the KRX416, a single-chip solution for the decrypting and decoding the company’s 32-bit encrypted code-hopping transmitters.
The IC makes use of an internal clock so with the very minimum of external components, a sophisticated but simple to use low-cost data decoder incorporating secure authorisation can be realised. Using a single button and suitable FM receiver, the user can instruct the KRX416 IC to recognise and synchronise with up to 16 individual Radiometrix code-hopping transmitters. The 28-bit serial number and code synchronisation for each transmitter is retained in the on-chip memory even after power has been removed. KRX416 incorporates a Manchester decoder, makes use of a CRC and has four individual ON/OFF outputs and two output modes (momentary and latched). The device will also output a status flag indicating low battery voltage level at the transmitter.

The device is intended to be used with a 5V supply (+/-0.5V) and is also suitable for industrial environments, being protected from software latch-up, supply “brown-out” and having a temperature range of –40 to +85°C. The no-load current drawn is less than 2mA.

Typical applications for KRX416 are secure Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) RF remote control systems such as, intruder alarms, fire alarm control, door entry systems, vehicle locks and interlocks and simple industrial process control: up to 15 digital outputs may be realised using a KRX416 IC and simple circuitry.
