MediaTek unveils new 2x2 802.11ac Wi-Fi Chipset Solutions
MediaTek today announced the launch of its innovative MT7612x series, the industry’s first 2x2 802.11ac Wi-Fi chipset solutions that include fully integrated 2.4GHz and 5GHz power amplifiers supporting calibration free capability, together with the high output power previously only achievable with external PA solutions.
WithThe MT7612x chipsets feature dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz radios with integrated PA, LNA and T/R switches and support up to 867 Mbps of physical layer data rate (256 QAM), offering performance of near 600 Mbps throughput for bandwidth-intensive applications, such as smooth HD video viewing and low latency online gaming.
Complete with MediaTek’s field proven Beam-Forming technology , the solutions are furthermore capable of intelligently determining a receiver’s distance and location, controlling various transmission parameters, and optimizing the Wi-Fi signals to maximize throughput and range throughout the home.
Also beneficial for the home are the MT7612x solutions’ Multi Channel Concurrent and Dynamic Radio Control features, which help maximize performance in complex indoor environments. Moreover, the MT7612x chipsets can be augmented with Wi-Fi offload intelligent NIC functionality that allows manufacturers to easily incorporate wireless connectivity into products that previously lacked such capability, thus eliminating the need to upgrade host processors.
“With 802.11ac Wi-Fi emerging as the high speed wireless connectivity technology of choice, D-Link provides the industry-leading lineup of faster and lower power next-generation wireless products that consumers expect, and MediaTek helps us deliver on these requirements,” commented Jocelyn Chung, vice president of marketing, D-Link Global Headquarters. “MediaTek’s high performance, reliable, and cost-effective Wi-Fi technologies, together with our unique innovations like free-to-use Cloud Services, ultimately enable our customers to connect to more,” Chung added.
“The growing number of devices inside the home - from smartphones, tablets, digital TVs, game consoles and more - has resulted in increased demand for wireless speed and range . The MT7612x series of solutions are specifically designed to address those demands while ensuring the reliable connectivity essential for today’s multi-device environment.” said SR Tsai, General Manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Connectivity & Networking Business Unit. These solutions help open up the door for manufacturers by allowing them to integrate the 802.11ac Wi-Fi standard on a variety of devices for consumers.”
Sample MT7612x solutions will be available this quarter, with high-volume production commence in Q3, 2013. The product will be offered in two versions, the MT7612E, which offers a PCIe 2.0 interface, and the MT7612U, which offers a USB 3.0 interface.
