Gateway service integrates powerful WiFi & ultra-broadband
Technicolor and Fastweb have announced the launch of the FASTGATE gateway service which integrates ultra-broadband VDSL 35B data access and enhanced WiFi connectivity technology from Technicolor. The service delivers reliable 200 Mb/s download speeds and improved wireless access, allowing customers to enjoy high-speed data, high-fidelity video and real-time media throughout their homes and businesses.
“Italian families are ready for ultra-broadband services that let them enjoy high-quality video streaming, high-speed data, or other digital media -- whether they are connected wirelessly or not. With Technicolor’s advanced technologies and Fastweb’s extensive telecommunications services, we can meet our customers’ growing expectations. The new multi-stream WI-Fi also enables WOW FI, the social Wi-Fi service based on Fastweb’s client community, by increasing performance,” said Roberto Chieppa, Fastweb’s Head of Marketing.
Available in 24 cities, with plans underway to serve up to 30 cities by the end of 2016, Fastweb intends to expand its ultra-broadband network service to 13 million households in 500 cities (50% of the population) with a major deployment of fiber-to-the-home and fiber-to-the-cabinet technology by 2020 and speeds up to 200 Mbps.
“This collaboration between Fastweb and Technicolor reflects our joint commitment to introducing demanding consumers to cutting-edge innovations. To deliver its new eVDSL service, Fastweb is using technology from Technicolor that allows VDSL2 connectivity while providing VoIP functions. The partnership makes Fastweb the first operator in Europe to launch eVDSL, and is Technicolor’s first CPE eVDSL deployment. These two milestones will accelerate adoption of ultra-broadband services in Europe and pave the way for next-generation content and immersive services,” said Mercedes Pastor, President of EMEA Connected Home at Technicolor.
Fastweb’s service includes a Technicolor gateway that features four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports, and the latest multi-stream Wi-Fi technology available in the market. It also provides cutting edge Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) antenna technology that offers superior data rates, range and reliability.
The service leverages Technicolor’s AutoWAN sensing technology that can intelligently choose the best network path to accelerate the delivery of high-bandwidth services, such as 4K/UHD video streaming and other value-added Connected Home applications.
