Antenna booster meets small space requirements
Availability and full design support capabilities for the DUO mXTEND dual-band embedded antenna from Fractus Antennas has been announced by Richardson RFPD.
The DUO mXTEND antenna booster is part of a new generation of antenna solutions based on Fractus Antennas’ Virtual Antenna technology.
This technology enables replacing conventional and custom antenna solutions with a new class of antenna boosters, including miniature and off-the-shelf chip antenna components. These new multiband, multipurpose chip antennas fit in a variety of wireless platforms.
This enables simpler, faster and less expensive designs versus custom solutions.
The DUO mXTEND also incorporates a revolutionary design approach that eliminates the need for clearance area beyond its already-reduced footprint.
The combination of these two miniaturizing features makes DUO mXTEND an ideal solution for small and portable tracking devices, further eliminating the need for custom antenna development.
This miniature, high-efficiency antenna is versatile and can be optimised for a variety of requirements through external matching networks.
Richardson RFPD says that the DUO mXTEND is ideally suited for GPS/GALILEO/GLONASS/BeiDou modules, smart tracking devices, sport navigators, handsets and smartphones, tablets, digital cameras, and smartwatches and wearables.
Additional key features of the DUO mXTEND include:
- Average efficiency: > 60% @ 1561 MHz, > 70% @ 1575 MHz, > 60% @ 1598-1606 MHz
- Peak gain: 1.6 dBi @ 1561 MHz, 1.8 dBi @ 1575 MHz, 1.1 dBi @ 1598-1606 MHz
- VSWR: < 2.5:1
- Radiation pattern: Omnidirectional. Satellite signals are tracked regardless of the relative position, attitude and orientation of the tracking device.
- Weight (approx.): 0.11 g
- Temperature: -40 to +125 ºC
- Impedance: 50 Ω
- Dimensions: 7.0 mm x 3.0 mm x 2.0 mm
Fractus Antennas offers a free design service that will test the DUO mXTEND in a given device. The NN Wireless Fast-Track service promises a 24-hour turnaround of a chip antenna design and custom matching network for the device.
