Fingerprints & Infineon announce biometric payment card solution

This new offering simplifies the production of biometric smart cards, bringing it in line with the ease and efficiency of manufacturing standard dual-interface payment cards.

The SECORA Pay Bio solution combines Infineon’s advanced SLC39B system-on-chip (SoC) Secure Element with Fingerprints' FPC1323 sensor into a single package using Infineon’s Biometric Coil on Module (BCoM) technology. By leveraging inductive coupling, this innovation simplifies the production process for biometric payment cards. The cards store fingerprint credentials securely and use them as a second authentication factor, delivering a secure and seamless contactless payment experience.

Part of Infineon’s SECORA Pay product family, SECORA Pay Bio integrates Fingerprints' biometric sensor and Infineon’s SLC39B Secure Element into one dual-interface package, using the innovative Biometric Coil on Module (BCoM) technology. The SLC39B SoC Secure Element, with its integrated power source, offers a large memory capacity and excellent contactless performance. Thanks to inductive coupling technology, the module is connected to the card antenna without wires, significantly reducing manufacturing complexity while improving robustness and long-term reliability.

In addition, card manufacturers can produce biometric payment cards using their existing dual-interface equipment with minimal changes, making the transition to biometric card production smoother and more cost-effective. Since SECORA Pay Bio meets Visa and Mastercard standards, additional performance testing is unnecessary, enabling a quick and flexible rollout.

SECORA Pay Bio offers a wide range of options for fingerprint enrollment, including through devices, smartphone apps, and in-field enrollment. The new SECORA Pay Bio enrollment sheet makes it easier than ever to enrol fingerprints via a smartphone, while in-field enrollment allows users to activate their biometric payment cards at the point-of-sale without any extra equipment. Furthermore, the fingerprint template is updated with each transaction, continuously improving the user experience.

Availability

SECORA Pay Bio supports the latest payment applications, in compliance with EMV specifications. The product, which has been successfully piloted, is now available with a complete design-in package and is ready for mass production.
