Qoitech, a provider of battery life optimisation solutions for embedded electronics, has announced the release of a new API for its Otii Product Suite.

This latest software update, available for download on Qoitech’s website, aims to transform how developers work with battery emulation. The new API will be demonstrated at The Things Conference in Amsterdam next week.

Maximising IoT battery potential with Qoitech’s new API

Battery performance is crucial in the IoT landscape. Yet, it is estimated that more than 30% of battery capacity remains unused due to mismatched power consumption profiles. This leads to frequent battery replacements, increased maintenance costs, and devices that fail to reach their full potential. Qoitech’s new API addresses these issues by automating battery emulation, simplifying and speeding up the optimisation of battery life for IoT devices.

The importance of battery profiling and emulation

Battery profiling and emulation are critical steps in ensuring optimal battery usage. By simulating battery behaviour under various conditions, developers can predict when a device will require recharging or battery replacement. This insight reduces costly downtime and maintenance.

Key features of the new API

Qoitech’s API for the Otii Product Suite revolutionises the battery optimisation process, delivering time savings and enhanced insights into battery performance.

Key benefits include:

  • Automated battery emulation at different states of charge (SoC): The API allows developers to test battery performance at varying SoC levels using different profiles. This process highlights how much battery capacity can be utilised before a device powers down, removing the need for manual testing and speeding up the development process.
  • Seamless switching between battery profiles: Developers can quickly alternate between battery profiles to assess how a battery type performs under different conditions, such as varying temperatures. This feature enables identification of the most efficient battery usage scenarios, saving time and boosting product development.
  • Integration into Continuous Integration (CI) workflows: The API enables developers to incorporate battery emulation into their CI processes, allowing them to test firmware and software updates under different SoC levels and conditions. This ensures that updates do not negatively impact battery performance, maintaining device reliability throughout its lifecycle.

Live demonstrations at The Things Conference 2024, Amsterdam

The new API will be showcased at The Things Conference 2024 in Amsterdam, where visitors can view live demonstrations of its capabilities. Qoitech will provide insights into how this tool can simplify battery testing, optimise energy consumption, and improve overall product performance.

Vanja Samuelsson, CEO of Qoitech, commented: “We’re excited to bring this new API to the IoT community. Our goal is to provide developers with the best tools for optimising battery life, and this release takes that to the next level. We look forward to showcasing it at The Things Conference and demonstrating how it can transform the way developers approach battery testing and battery life estimation.”

Available now for download

The latest software update, including the new API, is now available for download on Qoitech’s website. The API is designed to integrate seamlessly with Otii Arc, Ace Pro, and Otii Toolboxes, offering a solution for developers aiming to enhance battery testing and extend device lifetimes.
