Ve-lumination: vein-finding tech
VeinViewer is a medical device designed to assist in vein detection and catheter placement, catering to the needs of both patients and healthcare professionals.
This tool supports the entire vascular access procedure, encompassing Pre-, During-, and Post-access phases.
Features and impacts of VeinViewer
Success rate enhancement: the device is designed to improve first stick success rates, potentially reducing the number of attempts needed for venous access and ergo, hopefully reducing any stress or discomfort associated with multiple needle sticks.
Patient satisfaction: by decreasing the necessity for PICC (peripherally inserted central catheter) lines in cases of difficult venous access and enhancing overall patient satisfaction, VeinViewer plays an important part in offering patients a more positive experience.
Technological capabilities: equipped with HD imaging and Df2 (digital full field) technology, VeinViewer can locate veins up to 10mm deep suitable for peripheral procedures and up to 15mm deep for blood pattern assessment, aiding in informed decision-making.
Application across vascular access stages
Pre-access assessment: the tool helps clinicians in vein selection by providing visual information about the veins, including their location and the presence of valves and bifurcations. It also assists in choosing the appropriate catheter gauge.
During-access assistance: VeinViewer facilitates navigating vessel curves and visualising rolling veins. It also aids in confirming the correct placement of IV catheters by visualising fluid flow.
Post-access evaluation: after catheter placement, the device assists in assessing the patency of the vessel, detecting hematomas, and confirming successful peripheral IV placements, which may reduce the need for central lines.
How VeinViewer works
VeinViewer functions by projecting near-infrared light onto the skin. This light is absorbed by blood and reflected by surrounding tissue. The device captures this information, processes it, and projects a real-time image of the blood pattern onto the skin, assisting in vein detection and catheter placement.
VeinViewer is a tool that aids in various stages of vascular access, offering visual assistance to healthcare professionals and potentially improving the patient experience during procedures involving vein access and catheter placement.
