Direct Insight showcases QNX and SoM Development
Direct Insight, the UK-based technical systems integrator and reseller of system-on-module (SoM) and other embedded systems, will attend the upcoming Medical Technology UK exhibition, which runs on the 13–14 March 2024 at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Visitors to Booth #9 will be able to discuss their specific projects with Direct Insight, a company that has helped hundreds of OEMs develop embedded systems in the medical and other hi-rel sectors using hardware and software products and tools from some of the industry’s most innovative suppliers.
At the show, IEC 62304 Class C devices based on the BlackBerry QNX Safety OS will be on display, alongside the underlying hardware and low-level software platforms which reduce time-to-market for medical devices. For medical scanners, powerful hardware solutions afford high data throughput alongside AI and data management technologies which permit real-time data analysis and classification.
Commented David Pashley, CEO of Direct Insight: “Developing safety certified medical systems requires the right platforms alongside the right experience. Combining leading System-on-Module (SoM) technology from suppliers like Ka-Ro and MicroSys, with secure, powerful safety-certified OS from QNX and high-performance time-series data management software from Ittia, Direct Insight can help customers’ development teams to focus on their differentiating core skills to deliver excellent products.”
The most recent addition to Direct Insight’s line card is German SoM provider, MicroSys. Their miriac MPX module technology, based high throughput Layerscape processor technology with integrated AI acceleration, offers all the advantages of SoM-based designs, such as application-ready core technology, faster time-to-market, high design reliability, lower NRE costs, and better-priced carrier boards thanks to less layers.
BlackBerry QNX software is trusted by medical device manufacturers to support a broad range of life-critical and graphics-rich medical devices. The foundational software is time-tested, inherently secure, and purpose-built for embedded systems. QNX OS for Safety and QNX Hypervisor for Safety products are pre-certified to IEC 62304 Class C.
Ka-Ro is a long-standing partner of Direct Insight. A leading SoM vendor, Direct Insight has overseen the design-in of the company’s NXP i.MX8M modules into multiple safety-certified medical devices. The German company also makes SoMs based on NXP’s iMX nine and iMX six families, the RZ/G2L from Renesas and ST’s STM32MP1.
ITTIA’s time-series data management tool allows real-time data aggregation, querying, and filtering, so that large data streams can be down-sampled at source. The tool is used in data-centric medical projects.
