Compact power entry module with filter features ground line choke
SCHURTER’s popular power entry module, KFA series, is now equipped with an additional ground line choke to suppress high frequency interference arising from ground loops on the ground line. In addition, the recently added ground line choke improves asymmetric attenuation in higher frequencies in medical filter versions.
EU nanomed association targets innovation
Patrick Boisseau, Chairman, European Technology Platform on Nanomedicine (ETPN), said that nanomedicine in Europe is rapidly progressing from a primarily academic-research-oriented and fragmented field to a multi-national programme sharply focused on bringing the benefits of nanomedicine to all Europeans.
Lab in a needle could revolutionise mobile testing
Researchers at Houston Methodist, along with collaborators at two major Singapore institutions, have developed a lab in a needle device that could provide instant results to routine lab tests, accelerating treatment and diagnosis by days. This single, self-contained medical device will be effective, for example, in quickly detecting liver toxicity which is a common side effect of chemotherapy.
RFID reader IC enables rugged handheld scanner
ams has announced that the 1153, a rugged, wearable RFID scanner made by Technology Solutions Limited, uses the highly-integrated, low-power AS3993 reader IC. The small, light 1153 Bluetooth Wearable RAIN (UHF) RFID Reader, which measures 10.2x5.5x5.6cm and weighs just 157g, has a palm strap so it can easily be worn on the back of the user’s hand, as well as an anchor point for attachment to a tablet computer.
Transforming healthcare with technology
In conjunction with the North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust, bITjAM is working to design and develop new technological innovations to aid suffers of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). MCI describes conditions consisting of problems with cognitive brain functions such as day-to-day thinking, remembering, language and visuospatial skills.
Valtronic to attend Medtech & Pharma Platform
Contract manufacturer Valtronic has announced that it will attend the upcoming Medtech & Pharma Platform conference and tabletop exhibition, scheduled to take place 22nd to 23rd October in Zurich. Valtronic will showcase its latest solutions for globally-based medical device and pharmacologic companies.
Medical power supply comes in small size
Designed for medical applications, the high power density (12.5W/in3) PRL1103 series of 300W switching power supplies offer single output ranging from 12 to 60VDC and dual outputs of 5, 12 and 24V optional combinations with a broad range of standard options to meet customer specific requirements.
Wearable module provides digital heart rate metrics
ams has announced the launch of the AS7000, the first member of a family of health/fitness solutions aimed at wearable devices. The AS7000 solution incorporates a highly integrated optical sensor module accompanied by software to provide industry-leading, highest accuracy optical Heart Rate Measurements (HRM) and Heart Rate Variation (HRV) readings, backed by opto-mechanical design-in support from ams.
Touch-screen tablet improves patient satisfaction
ARBOR Technology has announced the release of the ARBOR HTab, a bedside turn-key solution combining healthcare with patient entertainment. The Android-based Htab is based on a TI OMAP 4470 dual core Cortex-A9 processor and has a 10.1” LCD with 1280x800 WXGA resolution and a 10-point projected capacitive multi touch technology, facilitating effortless and accurate touch response.
EFS function helps to gain insights into DMD research
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is a progressive and fatal muscle degenerating disease caused by a dystrophin deficiency. Effective suppression of the primary pathology observed in DMD is critical for treatment. Patient-derived human induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (hiPSCs) are a promising tool for drug discovery.
