For demanding control or automation applications where a solution is required which can be installed into a waterproof enclosure, fit around other essential components, or meet stringent safety requirements, choosing an embedded computer can prove difficult when faced with space limitations. The Neousys Technology POC-700 series available from Impulse Embedded addresses these issues head-on, delivering powerful performance and adaptability in an ultra-compact form factor.

But what makes the POC-700 series so impressive?

Improved system performance

Utilising the power of Intel with the option of the Alder Lake Core i3-N305 or Alder Lake Atom x7425E processor, the POC-700 is an ultra-compact embedded computer series. The Intel Alder Lake Core i3-N305, with an octa-core processor available in the POC-715 model, combines high-performance and power-efficient cores on a single chip. This provides reliable performance with eight cores while consuming as low as 12 watts of power. The POC-700 series also has a remarkable 1.3x increase in CPU performance compared to its predecessor, which has an identical footprint, allowing for a seamless upgrade.

Aside from its processing power, the POC-700 series is an ideal AI application platform which facilitates OpenVINO for advanced interface capabilities, providing developers with a powerful toolkit to efficiently deploy computer vision models. Additionally, it has front-accessible I/O with optional PoE+ ports, ideal for industrial cameras in machine vision applications, and a DIN-mounting design featuring:

  • 4x Gb Ethernet ports by Intel I350-AM4.
  • 4x USB 3.2 Gen2 ports with screw-lock.
  • 4-CH isolated DI and 4-CH isolated DO.

Rugged against demanding conditions

Measuring a compact 64 x 116 x 176mm, the POC-700 series offers effortless installation, elevating the challenges of space constraints typical in the oil and gas industry. The POC-700 series thrives in extreme environments thanks to its extended operating temperature of -25°C to +60°C and MIL-STF-810H certification, providing resilience against shock and vibration, suitable for military applications. On top of that, the POC-700 series features a fanless design which requires low maintenance due to its resistance against airborne contaminants such as dust and debris.

Noise reduction is another benefit of its fanless design, which eliminates the significant noise generated by fans, providing silent operation in noise-sensitive environments. Overall, the POC-700 series is an ideal solution for diverse industry needs with its rugged features and MezIO compatibility, allowing you to customise the I/O with application-specific functions.

Enhanced heat dissipation

The POC-700-FT, part of the POC-700 series, addresses the thermal challenges faced in confined spaces. Whilst capitalising on the impressive features of the POC-700, the new POC-700-FT series features an innovative flat-top thermal design, ideal for installation in sealed enclosures where airflow is limited.

The flat-top heatsink has been developed to improve in-cabinet thermal dissipation, reducing the machine's overall size by 20% in confined spaces where traditional cooling solutions may not be practical.

Automation and control insight, technology know-how

Impulse Embedded recently worked with a customer on an exciting upgrade project for their crane control system. With their old control PCs struggling to keep up, the POC-715 was the ultimate solution, allowing for a smoother, more reliable crane control, a vital part of the customer's operations.
