Torex Semiconductor has launched a new series of inductor built-in Step-up DC/DC converters, the XCL109/XCL110 series.

The XCL109/XCL110 series incorporates both the IC and coil into a compact package measuring 2.0 × 2.5 × h1.04mm. It is a space-saving step-up DC/DC converter that requires only small input and output capacitors as peripheral components (Figures 1 and 2).

The converter can start operation with an input voltage as low as 0.9V, making it suitable for devices powered by a single alkaline or nickel-metal hydride battery. The output voltage is adjustable in 0.1V increments within the range of 1.8V to 5.5V, and it supports an operating ambient temperature of up to 105°C.

This product is available in three types to suit various applications:

  • The "load disconnect type" cuts off the connection between input and output during standby, minimising battery consumption.
  • The "bypass type" maintains the connection between input and output during MCU sleep mode, supplying the battery voltage directly. It boosts the voltage to 3.3V or other levels only during active mode, thereby reducing power consumption during sleep and contributing to overall low power consumption of the device.
  • The "output OR type" is ideal for output OR connections in configurations with multiple power lines or backup systems.

The XCL109/XCL110 series are optimal for industrial equipment, IoT, mobile devices, wearables, healthcare, and any other devices that demand compact size, low power consumption, and high functionality/performance while prioritising battery life.

The package used is the compact CL-2025-02 (2.0 x 2.5 x h1.04mm), which is pin-compatible with other inductor built-in Step-up DC/DC products, making it easy to consider replacements based on power specifications and application requirements.
