NXP Drives Car Innovation with Dual High-speed CAN Transceivers for In-Vehicle Networking
NXP Semiconductors N.V. announced its next generation of CAN transceivers with the introduction of the dual high-speed (HS) CAN transceiver, TJA1048. Enabling simpler and more efficient in-vehicle networking design, the TJA1048 is a performance and space optimized solution for electronic control units (ECUs) used in safety, comfort and environment-friendly automotive applications that carry more than one HS-CAN communication interface. It is ideal for engine, body control and gateway applications that use multiple HS-CAN networks and require a low-power mode with wake-up capability via bus. The TJA1048 features pin-to-pin compatibility with the single HS-CAN transceiver TJA1042/3 and offers high flexibility in building modular systems with either single or dual HS-CAN node.
CompToni Versluijs, general manager CAN-LIN Transceivers, NXP Semiconductors, said: “As vehicle electronics become increasingly complex, the automotive industry faces new challenges in lowering energy consumption while maintaining extremely reliable in-car communications standards. NXP’s latest dual high-speed CAN transceiver is the result of our commitment and close collaboration with customers to deliver high-performing, cost efficient, future proof technology for resilient in-vehicle networks.”
The TJA1048 dual HS-CAN transceiver includes enhancements such as:
Two TJA1042/3 HS-CAN transceivers combined monolithically in a single package
A very low-current Standby mode with bus wake-up capability on both channels
Ability to interface directly to microcontrollers with supply voltages from 3V to 5V
Advanced low-power receiver to prevent unintended wake-up, as specified in ISO 11898-5
Fully ISO 11898-2 and ISO 11898-5 compliant, the transceiver has been qualified to Automotive Electronics Council (AEC) standard Q100 and is suitable for use in automotive applications. Manufactured in state-of-the-art SOI (silicon on insulator) technology, the TJA1048 has extremely low emission and high immunity against electromagnetic interference meeting latest OEM requirements, while the bus pins are protected against transients in the automotive environment.
With more than 30 products, NXP has the broadest portfolio of automotive CAN/LIN standalone transceivers in the market and supplies millions of transceivers to over a hundred direct customers every week. Such a broad customer base coupled with high volume production enables a sustainable supply and ensures that customers will benefit from NXP's long-term commitment to increase productivity and quality
