In 2024, Rutronik Elektronische Bauelemente’s Automotive Business Unit (ABU) will celebrate its tenth anniversary under the theme "10 Years of Success Stories."

Since its establishment in 2014, ABU has become a key player within the automotive sector. To mark this milestone, the team is reflecting on its journey and highlighting some of its notable achievements.

Founded in October 2014, the Automotive Business Unit has grown into a vital platform for the automotive industry. "We are pleased that thanks to our extensive network of well-known automotive companies, we have been able to create a valuable platform for the automotive industry over the past ten years," said Uwe Rahn, Senior Director of the Automotive Business Unit at Rutronik.

ABU focuses exclusively on the automotive segment, collaborating with top-tier manufacturers in the industry. Acting as both a consultant and a bridge between electronic component manufacturers, Tier 1 suppliers, and OEMs, ABU’s primary objective is to address the complex challenges of its clients. By offering expert advice and component recommendations, ABU also provides tailored logistics and dependable supply chain management solutions to its customers.

Since 2018, the Rutronik Automotive Congress in Pforzheim has become a key event for decision-makers, innovators, and developers in the German automotive industry. Recently, ABU expanded its reach with the inaugural Rutronik Automotive Convention in the USA. The event was well received by automotive experts, with discussions focusing on advanced topics such as modern electrical architectures, ADAS, electromobility, and ambient lighting.

In recent years, one of ABU’s standout developments has been the creation and introduction of the 800V reference design "Smart HV-eFuse," in collaboration with Vishay. Specifically designed for the Asia and ASEAN markets, the latest reference design centres around 48V micro-mobility for Light Electric Vehicles (LEV). It features a 15kW traction inverter, a 48V on-board charger, a DC/DC converter with up to 1kW capacity, and a 48V e-fuse to protect the OBC. ABU’s participation in key exhibitions, such as Future Mobility Asia in Bangkok, ASEAN Automotive Supply Chain in Thailand, and the upcoming electronica India 2024 in Delhi, has been essential in showcasing this innovative design.
