HARMAN advances automotive tech with new collaborations
HARMAN, an automotive technology specialist and subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, has announced a series of new collaborations with leading companies across the tech and automotive sectors.
Together, they aim to accelerate the transformation of the automotive industry by integrating empathy and contextual awareness into the driving experience.
HARMAN's latest collaborations are focused on creating intelligent and intuitive user experiences in vehicles. These include advanced visuals for in-vehicle displays and AI systems designed to foster natural interactions between occupants and technology.
“At HARMAN, we believe that when it comes to transforming the industry, we are better together, and collaboration is the key to unlocking everyone’s full potential,” said Christian Sobottka, President of HARMAN Automotive. “By working with industry leaders across the automotive and technology sectors, we are embracing collective intelligence to create a new level of in-cabin experiences that adapt to what consumers want and automakers need.”
At CES 2025, HARMAN will showcase how its collaborations are advancing the automotive sector and transforming interactions with vehicles.
Ushering in a new era of intelligent, empathetic journeys
HARMAN, in partnership with Cerence AI, is introducing generative AI technology into vehicles. CES 2025 will see the launch of the “Luna” avatar powered by Ready Engage, HARMAN’s new emotionally intelligent AI system. Designed with flexibility in mind, it integrates with Cerence AI’s voice assistant platform and adapts to advancements in AI technology. Ready Engage provides personalised interactions that anticipate user needs and respond naturally through voice and visuals, creating a friendly and approachable connection.
This collaboration also enhances HARMAN’s Ready Link Marketplace developer ecosystem. Cerence AI’s CaLLM Edge on-device small language model (SLM) is integrated into Ready Upgrade, enabling third-party developers to create in-car applications that incorporate personalised content while ensuring data security. Developers can access these features through a standardised interface provided by HARMAN.
Uniting advanced driver assistance and in-cabin experiences
HARMAN and HL Klemove are working together to integrate cockpit and advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) domains into one solution. Their collaboration has resulted in a light central compute unit (CCU) based on HARMAN’s Ready Upgrade cockpit domain controller and HL Klemove’s Level 2 software stack and ADAS sensor set.
Looking ahead, the two companies are developing a product-grade CCU platform that combines their latest cockpit and ADAS features, offering automakers faster time to market and greater flexibility for customisation.
Delivering exceptional consumer experiences in-cabin
With Samsung’s consumer electronics expertise, HARMAN’s in-cabin experiences meet the performance and design standards of today’s personal devices. For example, HARMAN Ready Display products leverage Samsung Neo QLED technology, featuring cadmium-free Quantum Dot displays and Blue Mini LED-based local dimming. These innovations bring high-quality visuals to vehicles, combining brightness, intelligent algorithms, and modern design.
Harnessing near real-time technology to support safety and wellness
HARMAN is collaborating with Miovision and Qualcomm Technologies to enhance safety through its Ready products.
Ready Aware, a vehicle-to-network (V2N)-based SaaS solution, improves situational awareness with contextual alerts, such as time-to-green signals and red-light assist, developed in partnership with Miovision.
Additionally, HARMAN and Qualcomm Technologies are redefining connectivity with the Ready Connect 5G telematics control unit (TCU), incorporating satellite communication for mobility services like emergency messaging. Based on the Snapdragon Auto 5G Modem-RF Gen 2, this collaboration supports scalable and upgradable solutions for the evolving automotive market.
Enhancing driver safety and comfort with personalised in-cabin interventions
HARMAN and Gentherm, a pioneer in thermal management and pneumatic comfort technologies, are furthering their partnership to enhance in-cabin safety and comfort.
HARMAN Ready Care, which measures a driver’s visual and cognitive load alongside vital signals, now integrates with Gentherm’s WellSense product. This combination enables personalised interventions such as seat heating and cooling, adjusted based on the driver’s stress, distraction, or drowsiness levels.
Better together: driving future-ready in-cabin innovation
By partnering with innovators across industries, HARMAN is shaping the future of automotive experiences. Through collaboration, it continues to transform cars into intelligent and empathetic companions.
