Offering sharper triggering than Zener diodes or varistors to provide a superior protection solution, Diodes Incorporated introduces an AEC-Q101 qualified ESD and surge protector. According to the manufacturer, the D24V0L1B2LPSQ offers improved protection, greater reliability and easier inspection during manufacturing, when compared to Zener-based and varistor devices.

Protecting CAN and LIN two-wire communications busses in automobiles from voltage transients, the D24V0L1B2LPSQ is a low-capacitance, 15pF device with 0.2Ω dynamic resistance. Withstanding air discharge and contact ESD of up to 30kV, the ESD and surge protector has a rated standoff voltage of 24V and exceeds IEC61000-4-2 requirements.

Diodes Incorporated has also claimed that the ESD and surge protector is the first of its type to feature sidewall plating, also known as ‘wettable flanks’. The tin plated package sidewall allows a solder fillet to be formed, which can then be optically inspected. this eliminates the need for slow and expensive X-ray inspection during PCB assembly.

Supplied in a tiny DFN1006-S package, the D24V0L1B2LPSQ ESD and surge protector is available now for $0.10 each in 3,000 unit quantities.
