ABLIC has announced the launch of the S-19161A/B that enables automotive manufacturers to significantly miniaturise backup power systems.

Operating at 125°C, this IC allows vehicle manufacturers to replace multiple nickel hydride batteries with a single lithium battery in emergency backup power systems.

Conventional automotive backup power systems require multiple nickel hydride batteries to maintain emergency functions when the main power supply fails. The S-19161A/B's innovative protection features enable the use of a single lithium battery, delivering the same functionality in a more compact form factor.

The IC operates across a temperature range of -40°C to 125°C, exceeding conventional 85°C limits. It features industry-leading overcharge detection accuracy of ±15mV with three-level discharge overcurrent protection.

Designed for emergency call (e-Call) systems and Telematics Control Units (TCUs), the S-19161A/B meets Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) requirements and is undergoing AEC-Q100 Grade 1 certification for automotive IC quality standards.

This advancement supports the automotive industry's push toward miniaturisation and more efficient designs.

ABLIC will continue to expand its automotive protection IC portfolio and develop new lithium-ion battery protection ICs for diverse applications.

Key features

Achieves operation in high temperatures up to 125℃ - Operating across a temperature range of -40℃ to 125℃, this IC significantly exceeds the conventional 85℃ limit of most protection ICs. This enables enhanced protection for 1-cell automotive batteries and improves safety in high-temperature applications.

High degree of safety through 3 levels of discharge overcurrent protection - The product is equipped with 3 levels of discharge overcurrent protection; 1) discharge overcurrent 1, 2) discharge overcurrent 2, and 3) load short-circuiting; making it possible to isolate abnormal current in safer areas. This achieves industry top-class detection voltage accuracy and improves application device safety.

Industry top-class overcharge detection voltage accuracy of ±15mV - The IC achieves industry-leading overcharge detection accuracy of ±15mV, optimising battery performance while maintaining robust safety protection.
