Dual inductor is first to operate up to +155°C
Offering two inductors in one 4032 package, Vishay Intertechnology has announced that the automotive-grade IHLD-4032KB-5A is the industry's first dual inductor to operate up to +155°C. The device is optimised for automotive and commercial class D amplifier circuits, where it reduces board space requirements and offers improved performance compared to multiple discrete inductors.
ARM Cortex-M0+ MCUs feature capacitive touch support
Atmel has launched its next-gen family of automotive-qualified ARM Cortex-M0+-based MCUs with an integrated peripheral touch controller for capacitive touch applications. The SAM DA1 is the first series in this automotive-qualified product family, operating at a maximum frequency of 48MHz and reaching 2.14Coremark/MHz.
Laser bar eases coupling of light into fibres
Rutronik is selling the SPL BF98-40-5 laser bar from Osram Opto Semiconductors, that thanks to its high brilliance considerably reduces the complexity of coupling light into fibres. Osram has optimised the chip design in terms of beam quality, resulting in a wavelength of 976nm and high brilliance of 3W/mm*mrad at an optical output of 44W. The laser bar is 5mm wide and consists of five emitters, each 100µm wide and each with cavity length o...
Protective housings target motorsport applications
Protective housings, manufactured by HellermannTyton, are now available from the Motorsport Division of Lane Electronics. For maximum protection, the housings can be supplied in a straight or right-angle format and in a range of materials specially formulated to combine high electric strength, mechanical toughness and superior chemical and environmental resistance.
Crystals enable ECUs to operate at higher frequencies
Suitable for next-gen automotive LANs, such as Ethernet or image processing ECUs, ADAS ECUs and gateway ECUs, the XRCGB-F-A series crystal units have been announced by Murata. The crystals are compact, 2016-size (2.0x1.6mm), and highly precise while supporting high frequencies from 24 to 48MHz.
Connector offers high pin count in a 2.0mm pitch
Designed to handle demanding automotive conditions, the GT8E series internal wire-to-board or wire-to-wire interface connector has been released by Hirose. Featuring a 2.0mm pitch, the connector provides a high pin count in a small footprint.
In the driving seat
The use of MCUs in automotive applications is growing, but Steve Rogerson found there were differences in how the chip makers see the market evolving.
Varistors combine circuit protection & EMI/RFI attenuation
Combining circuit protection and EMI/RFI attenuation functions in a single device, the VR20 varistors have been released by AVX. The TransGuard automotive devices are based on the company’s patented multilayer varistor technology, which provides bi-directional transient voltage protection in the on-state and EMI/RFI attenuation in the off-state.
AEG to supply battery chargers for Deutsche Bahn
AEG Power Solutions has won a contract from Bombardier Transportation to supply on-board battery chargers, inverters and DC/DC converters for electric locomotives ordered by Deutsche Bahn.
Automotive thin film chip resistor family extended
Now available in 0402 and 1206 case sizes, the PATT precision automotive thin film chip resistor family has been extended by Vishay Intertechnology. The devices are offered with gold-plated terminals for conventional solder assembly and conductive glueable board mount technologies, as well as high-temperature operation to +155°C with 100% power dissipation, derated linearly to +250°C.
