Q-Tech Corporation has introduced the industry’s first multiple-output temperature-controlled crystal oscillators (TCXOs) designed for full space applications.

The QT8220 Series TCXOs, which offer between two and four CMOS outputs, are housed in hermetically sealed 32-pin Flatpack enclosures. These multiple-output TCXOs provide significant advantages in terms of Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) when compared to the traditional method of using single-output TCXOs to achieve the same functionality.

The QT8220 Series devices are available with supply voltages of 3.3V or 5.0V and operate at frequencies ranging from 20MHz to 100MHz. Engineered for full space applications, these TCXOs provide excellent stability, ranging from ±0.5 to 4.0ppm, over a broad temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). They are highly resistant to radiation, with a tolerance exceeding 100kRad(Si) Total Ionising Dose (TID) and Single Event Latch-up (SEL) immunity over 85MeV-cm2/mg. Additionally, they deliver low phase noise and jitter performance. Each QT8220 device undergoes rigorous screening and inspection in accordance with MIL-PRF-55310, Level S.

“Our new quad-output CMOS TCXOs allow designers to clock multiple inputs, such as multiple FPGAs, with just a single component, rather than needing multiple oscillators for the same functionality,” said Scott Sentz, VP of Sales and Marketing, Q-Tech. “As the first space-qualified, multiple-output TCXOs, the QT8220 Series offers unmatched SWaP benefits for demanding full space environments.”
