ICEYE has expanded its capabilities with the successful deployment of three more synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites on March 4th, 2024.

This launch includes a 1200MHz radar bandwidth in-orbit technology demonstrator, set to achieve 25cm resolution imaging. Orchestrated through launch integrator Exolaunch, the mission took off from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, USA, aboard a SpaceX Transporter-10 rideshare, marking another milestone with all spacecraft establishing communication post-launch and commencing early operations.

Among the trio, two SAR satellites were produced by ICEYE US, and the technology demonstrator, boasting an enhanced X-band antenna for increased radar bandwidth to 1200 MHz, was developed by ICEYE in Finland. This upgrade promises to deliver unprecedented image resolution up to 25 cm, undergoing engineering evaluations before its services extend to ICEYE's clientele.

Rafal Modrzewski, CEO and Co-Founder of ICEYE, emphasised the impact of this development: “Our growing constellation provides an objective and reliable source of intelligence, enabling a faster, more accurate response to changes taking place anywhere on the planet. The launch of the 1200MHz bandwidth technology demonstrator delivers 25cm resolution SAR imaging, unlocking a new level of clarity and detail for high-priority decision-making.”

This launch signifies not just an increase in the quantity of satellites but also a qualitative leap in technological capabilities, with the new radar system facilitating superior image quality, enhanced download speeds for quicker imagery collection, and seamless integration with ICEYE's extensive network of ground stations.

Eric Jensen, CEO of ICEYE US, highlighted the operational significance of these additions: “Our partners require dependable and persistent change detection to address emergent, time-critical needs. We are proud to add two additional US-built satellites to our constellation, strengthening our commitment to deliver strategic insights for our defence, intelligence, civil, and commercial customers.”

With a total of 34 spacecraft launched since 2018, ICEYE now operates the largest SAR satellite constellation globally, capable of imaging any point on Earth under any weather conditions, day, or night. This powerful tool offers ICEYE's government and commercial partners precise, near-real-time insights.

Looking ahead, ICEYE has ambitious plans to further augment its constellation, targeting up to 15 satellite launches throughout 2024.
