The industry’s first radiation-tolerant FPGA kit
Microsemi has announced the RTG4 development kit with its recently announced RTG4 PROTO FPGAs. Hailed as the industry’s first radiation-tolerant FPGA kit providing space designers a comprehensive evaluation and design platform, it is suited for the development of applications such as data transmission, serial connectivity, bus interface and high speed designs, using the company’s RTG4 radiation-tolerant high-speed FPGAs.
NASA brings internet to the entire solar system
NASA has taken a major step toward creating a Solar System internet by establishing operational Delay/Disruption Tolerant Networking (DTN) service on the ISS. The DTN service will help automate and improve data availability for space station experimenters and will result in more efficient bandwidth utilisation and more data return.
The largest neutrino telescope in the world
Deep-sea array will soak up signals from neutrinos travelling through the cosmos to study the evolution of the universe and to discover more about the fundamental properties of these prized sub-atomic particles. KM3NeT – a European collaboration pioneering the deployment of kilometre cubed arrays of neutrino detectors off the Mediterranean coast – has reported in detail on the scientific aims, technology and costs of its proposal in t...
NASA unveils experimental electric aeroplane
With 14 electric motors turning propellers integrated into a uniquely-designed wing, NASA will test new propulsion technology using an experimental aeroplane. This plane, the agency’s first X-plane designation in a decade, has been designated the X-57 and nicknamed “Maxwell”.
The world’s most advanced helmet for defence sector
Morgan Advanced Materials has incorporated D3O TRUST high-performance padding system into its ultra-lightweight combat helmet portfolio, the LASA AC914 and LASA AC915. The combination of Morgan’s hybrid composite ballistic helmet shell technology, with D3O’s impact pads is believed to be the most advanced combat helmet in the global market.
CDM Electronics offers titan ground PowerT cable assemblies
CDM Electronics has announced the availability of Eaton's Titan Ground Power Series of cable assemblies and field-replaceable adapters for commercial and military aircraft. The parts' advanced interconnect technologies decrease mating forces by 40% and demating by 60% to extend aircraft power receptacle life and reduce receptacle-related Aircraft On Ground (AOG) expenses and schedule delays.
3-phase motor drive provides 100k rad total dose protection
Featuring 100k rad total dose protection and advanced circuit and logic protection to ensure fail-safe operation, Data Device Corporation (DDC) has announced a high-reliability, 3-phase radiation tolerant motor drive. The PW-82336 utilises a high-efficiency, radiation tolerant MOSFET output stage with 100VDC rating to deliver 5A continuous current (10A peak current) to the motor, along with flexible I/O, enabling a common design to be used across...
Drone hunter recognises & prevents remote microdrones
Microdrones, that fly above prohibited areas are an increasing security risk. R&S ARDRONIS enables users to identify drone control signals early on, locate and even stop the drone.
Competition seeks the best use of Earth observation data
The Sentinel satellite constellation and the ground stations of Europe's Copernicus programme deliver huge amounts of data on our planet every single day. In addition to supporting long-term studies of climates and environments, they provide rapid access to aerial overviews in the event of sudden floods, forest fires and other natural disasters.
WxPD support added to UEI’s ARINC-708/453 interfaces
United Electronic Industries (UEI) is pleased to announce it has added WxPD support to its popular DNx-708-453 avionics interface. WxPD is a Honeywell developed interface between flight computers and digital displays typically used in weather radar and EGPWS (Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning Systems) applications.
