The wireless sensor development kits significantly reduce the time and effort required to move designs from proof-of-concept to production release. The out-of-the-box kits allow engineers to establish a wor...
Op-amp is claimed to be industry's most robust
An operational amplifier, claimed to be the industry’s most robust, has been introduced by Analog Devices. The ADA4177-2 dual-channel amplifier integrates input protection against signal excursions of 32V beyond the supply rails and 70dB of rejection for EMI above 1GHz.
Using a wideband balun with ADCs
Most high-speed ADCs use a differential input structure. This provides good common-mode noise rejection, but often requires a single-ended signal to be converted into a differential signal at the ADC input. A passive balun or transformer and an active amplifier are the main choices for the conversion process. By Ian Beavers, Analog Devices.
ADI appoints Vice President of EMEA Sales
Mike Britchfield has been appointed to the position of Vice President of EMEA Sales at Analog Devices. To meet the needs of all customers, whether through ADI direct sales or distribution channels, Britchfield will manage an experienced sales network providing both technical support and customer service across the region.
Demodulator maximises battery life of portable instruments
Utilising the company’s patent pending Sampled Analog Technology (SAT), the ADA2200 synchronous demodulator has been introduced by Analog Devices. Enabling designers of portable and low-power instrumentation to maximise battery life, the device features a configurable analogue filter. The filter also allows designers to perform precision magnitude and phase measurements on analogue signals in the presence of large noise sources.
Magnetic angle sensor directly measures motor position
Claimed to be the industry’s highest precision, highest speed magnetic angle sensor, the ADA4571 has been released by Analog Devices. According to the company, the device is four times more accurate (0.5° max), 60% faster and uses 40% less power than competing angle sensors. To reduce noise, optimise smoothness and torque performance, the sensor directly measures motor position.
Automotive audio bus enables transceiver to deliver 50Mb/s
Capable of distributing audio and control data together with clock and power over a single, unshielded twisted-pair wire, a digital audio bus technology has been introduced by Analog Devices. Providing improved vehicle fuel efficiency while delivering high-fidelity audio, the Automotive Audio Bus (A²B) reduces the weight of existing cable harnesses.
Ka-band upconverter & HPA operate from 29-31GHz
Suitable for use in single-carrier satellite communications, two Ka-band devices have been released by Analog Devices. Operating in the 29-31GHz frequency output range, the HMC7053 block upconverter and HMC7054 high-power amplifier (HPA) feature 60dBc spurious-free dynamic range performance. Meeting military environmental conditions, the devices cover both commercial and military bands.
Understanding converter specifications: bandwidth first
When starting a new design, the first parameter that must be chosen is bandwidth. Three types of front ends can be used, depending on the application: baseband, bandpass (or super-Nyquist or narrowband) and wideband, as shown in the figure (left). By Rob Reeder, Senior System Application Engineer, Analog Devices.
D/A converter slashes E-Band development costs
Analog Devices’ new 2.8-GSPS dual 16-bit converter is aimed at telecommunications system manufacturers that require microwave frequencies in point-to-point wireless backhaul equipment. The 16-bit AD9136 and 11-bit AD9135 dual D/A converters achieve up to 70 percent higher signal bandwidth than competing devices while enabling designers to support emerging E-band (71-76 GHz and 81-86 GHz) frequencies being adopted by wireless carriers to sup...
Innovation at the 'Analog to Anywhere' Technology Pavilion
Analog Devices will be demonstrating innovative solutions and hosting a series of demonstrations from its 'Analog to Anywhere' Technology Pavilion. Helping customers anticipate and solve their toughest design challenges, the highlighted solutions will enable customers to speed development time.
ADC clock input considerations
For optimum performance, an ADC’s sample clock inputs (CLK+ and CLK−) should be driven with a differential signal. This signal is typically AC-coupled to the CLK+ and CLK− pins via a transformer or capacitors. These pins are biased internally and require no additional biasing. By Ian Beavers, Staff Engineer, Analog Devices.
ADC stakes claim as markets fastest & most accurate
Claimed to be the fastest, most accurate, lowest power A/D converter in the industry, the 16-bit AD7981 has been unveiled by Analog Devices. The company claims that the device is more than twice as fast as existing converters and provides error-free operation at temperatures of up to 175°C. The device, with sample rates up to 600-kSPS, scales power linearly using only 4.65 mW at a full speed of 600 kSPS and 70 µW at 10 kSPS.
Amplifiers integrate DSP for improved power efficiency
