Electronic Specifier highlights the top 10 stories from electronica 2024, the world’s leading trade fair for electronics.

From November 12 to 15, 3,480 exhibitors presented their innovations across the entire spectrum of electronics to about 80,000 visitors. In addition to sustainability, key topics such as artificial intelligence, the future of mobility, and the development of young talent sparked lively discussions at the exhibition stands and throughout the supporting programme. The equally successful SEMICON Europa took place concurrently in two halls.

Pulsiv at electronica: 240W output from a single USB-C port

At electronica 2024, Pulsiv, a Cambridge-based innovator in power electronics, became the first company to deliver 240W from a single USB-C port. This achievement combines Pulsiv OSMIUM front-end technology with an industry-standard flyback design, passing stringent EMC and line current requirements. The development is set to transform global charging markets.

Electronics Excellence Award winners at electronica 2024

Electronic Specifier announced three winners for its Electronics Excellence Awards at electronica 2024. The Electronics Excellence Awards ceremony took place on the Visionary Stage, Hall B4 at 12.50pm on 14th November at electronica.

Each entry was placed into one of three categories: Power Product, Test & Measurement Product, and Electromechanical Product.

ROHM’s new SiC Schottky barrier diodes at electronica 2024

ROHM has developed surface mount SiC Schottky barrier diodes (SBDs) that improve insulation resistance by increasing the creepage distance between terminals.

The initial lineup includes eight models – SCS2xxxNHR – for automotive applications such as onboard chargers (OBCs), with plans to deploy eight models – SCS2xxxN – for industrial equipment such as FA devices and PV inverters in December 2024.

The Women in Tech Forum at electronica 2024, hosted by Electronic Specifier and Women in Electronics, took place on Wednesday 13th November 2024, and what a fantastic forum it was.

The event offered a close look at leadership and inclusion within the electronics industry, kicking off with a rousing keynote speech from Jackie Mattox, Founder and CEO of Women in Electronics. This was then followed by a candid panel discussion moderated by Electronic Specifier’s Managing Editor, Paige West.

Edge AI as a topic was something Advantech began seriously thinking about “one year ago,” Thomas Kaminski, Director, Product Sales & Marketing Management at Advantech Europe told IoT Insider at electronica 2024.

Advantech, who was present at electronica with their partner with Hailo, are focusing on expanding its energy-efficient Edge AI portfolio, with the aim for Advantech to use Hailo’s AI accelerators to develop Edge AI systems and AI acceleration modules.

Texas Instruments (TI) had been busy at electronica 2024 showing off its latest innovations to enable what it calls a more ‘intelligence and sustainable future.’

A big part of this drive into a more intelligent and sustainable future is found within the energy infrastructure sector where TI has created a vision for how this sector can be revolutionised. TI are confident that MCUs and advanced materials such as GaN are key to achieving this.
