SmartRay, a manufacturer of 3D sensors specialising in metrology-grade inspection through laser triangulation, is set to unveil its latest innovations and product launches at VISION 2024 from 8-10 October in Stuttgart, Germany.

As the global event for computer vision technologies, VISION 2024 will feature more than 400 exhibitors, with SmartRay showcasing its latest advancements in the cutting-edge ECCO X 3D sensors. These state-of-the-art sensors deliver scan rates of up to 40kHz, making them ideal for high-precision applications.

At Stand 10E20, visitors will witness live demonstrations of SmartRay’s new products, including the ECCO X 012 3D sensor. This sensor boasts an impressive vertical resolution of 0.3 - 0.4µm, lateral resolution of 2.7 - 3.2µm, and a scan rate of up to 40kHz. A live demonstration will showcase the sensor’s ability to scan injection needles with varying diameters.

Another highlight is the ECCO X 025 Dual-Head sensor, currently a prototype with a planned release in 2025. This sensor offers high-speed, shadow-free scanning, demonstrated through the scanning of a ball grid array (BGA).

Additionally, SmartRay will introduce the ECCO X 100, designed for high-speed gap measurement applications, commonly used in the automotive and white goods industries. The live demo will feature two sensors with different laser wavelengths – 450nm (Brilliant Blue) and 660nm (Red) – highlighting the high dynamic range and image stitching capabilities of this sensor.

SmartRay will also demonstrate JOSY, its innovative weld inspection solution. This system will be showcased by scanning a prismatic battery top weld, a critical component in electric vehicle battery production. With inspection speeds of under two seconds and reliable defect detection down to 0.1 mm, JOSY offers a game-changing solution for quality control in this industry. Its intuitive display simplifies rework and process optimisation.

In addition to its standard sensor offerings, SmartRay provides an OEM customisation service, allowing tailored 3D inspection solutions to meet specific requirements. Whether minor adjustments or the development of highly specialised sensors, customers benefit from top-tier resolution, accuracy, and repeatability. Visitors are encouraged to consult with the on-site experts to discuss customisation options to suit their needs.

“We are proud to launch our new 3D sensors at this key event for the image processing world. The smallest, most compact sensor in its class, our ECCO X range is revolutionising 3D inspection. With a wide range of fields of FOV models, ECCO sensors provide high-performance, high-resolution and flexible scanning, whatever your target requirements offering inline metrology and inspection," said Clare Rathsack, Business Unit Manager for ECCO at SmartRay.
