The energy-saving and convenience benefits of 'smart buildings' will be highlighted by STMicroelectonics with numerous demos using the latest IoT (Internet of Things) semiconductor technology at SEDEX 2016 (26th-28th October 2016, COEX, Seoul).

ST’s vision of the smart building offers a glimpse into a future urban life that manages and uses energy throughout the building more efficiently by utilising semiconductor technology. At the same time, this technology provides a superior security, convenience and comfort. Building on the foundation of the STM32 Nucleo 32-bit microcontroller development board and a range of STM32 X-Nucleo expansion boards, which are equipped with sensors, connectivity ICs, motor drivers, security ICs, and power supplies, many smart-building applications will be shown by ST at SEDEX 2016. These applications include NFC-based parking authentication, smart lighting control with ToF (Time-of-Flight) sensors, a smart door with face recognition, and room-temperature control with voice commands that are enabled by MEMS microphone technology.

The showcase will also encourage visitors’ creativity: A space in the corner of the ST booth will allow participants to try the STM32 Open Development Environment (STM32 ODE). STM32 ODE is an open development ecosystem that provides an easy and affordable way to prototype using development (STM32 Nucleo) and extension (X-Nucleo) boards and related software that can be assembled like blocks, based on the development application and device.

At SEDEX 2016, ST also will demonstrate its 32-bit microcontroller STM32H7 product series, which provides easy access to ARM Cortex-M7 Core-based high-performance embedded design. The STM32H7 series is the highest-performing MCU in its class and uses ST’s own highly advanced 40nm chip-fabrication process, running at a maximum speed of 400MHz. With the introduction of STM32H7, ST is maintaining the proven convenience of complete pin, peripheral, and software compatibility among microcontrollers throughout the STM32F4 and F7 product series.

In addition, participants can check out ST’s latest IoT-related solutions including motion sensors (MEMS), ToF proximity sensors, Bluetooth Low Energy (Bluetooth LE), STM32-based LoRa, wireless charging ICs, BLDC motors, Silicon-Carbide (SiC) MOSFETs, Thin-Film Batteries and the latest secure MCU products for IoT (STSAFE).

ST is showcasing its technologies to suggest solutions well suited for the IoT era and to create safe and comfortable future together with customers.
