Next-gen automotive technologies showcased at CES 2015
At CES 2015, which takes place from 6th to 9th January in Las Vegas, Atmel will be showcasing its next-gen automotive technology demonstrator, AvantCar 2.0. The fully functional center console uses Atmel technologies to demonstrate a connected car concept, showcasing car access, car networking, MCUs, audio streaming over-Ethernet-AVB and CryptoAuthentication products.
The console features curved TFT touchscreen displays, which utilise the company’s maXTouch touchscreen controllers and XSense flexible touch sensors for advanced HMI. The maXTouch and XSense touch technologies enable a radius of less than 1m, providing higher accuracy, linearity and glove touch support. The AvantCar 2.0 also features the company’s QTouch technology, which provides proximity sensing and capacitive touch buttons and sliders. Featuring the company’s RF and automotive-qualified AVR MCUs, LIN enables ambient lighting controls.
Slimmer than its predecessor, AvantCar 2.0 features Silicon Image’s Mobile HD Link solution, which allows users to easily transmit content from a smartphone, tablet, or other mobile device to larger displays such as in-dash automotive displays.
“As a provider of smart, connected devices with sophisticated, easy-to-use HMI, Atmel is committed to delivering a connected experience in the automobile,” commented Rob Valiton, SVP and GM of Automotive, Aerospace and Memory Business Units, Atmel. “Atmel’s AvantCar 2.0 showcases the connected car and delivers a futuristic center console showcasing our latest technologies in a sleek, slim center console with increased performance and fully connected throughout the car. We are excited to bring this next-gen concept to the public demonstrating the future of HMI in the connected car.”
“The AvantCar 2.0 is a true reflection of what’s to come in next-gen center consoles,” said Jason Greene, Product Marketing Manager, Silicon Image. “Integrating MHL as the connectivity solution for the connected car and infotainment units enables drivers to navigate GPS and music apps or passengers to enjoy movies and games from the phone. We are excited to team with Atmel on this next-gen demo.”
